Week 22 Review: The Body in the Woods

From Goodreads:
In this new series told from multiple perspectives, teen members of a search and rescue team discover a dead body in the woods.

Alexis, Nick, and Ruby have very different backgrounds: Alexis has spent her life covering for her mom's mental illness, Nick's bravado hides his fear of not being good enough, and Ruby just wants to pursue her eccentric interests in a world that doesn't understand her. When the three teens join Portland County Sheriff's Search and Rescue, they are teamed up to search for a autistic man lost in the woods. What they find instead is a dead body. In a friendship that will be forged in danger, fear, and courage, the three team up to find the girl's killer—before he can strike one of their own.

My Review:
I loved this book! It had an kick ass mystery plot line, and a personal plotline of how people's relationships are to their families, tradition and otherwise, Alexis with her single mom who has a mental condition, Nick with a single mom and older brother with a dad that died in a war over in the Middle East, and Ruby, with 2 parents working as doctors. It was also a bit about finding your place in your family.

I really enjoyed all the POV's, however long and short, of the 3 people who become friends over this book, and the killer, and at least of from a victim. It just added to the mystery, because we have more details, but not ones that will help till the end, where you can go, oh, that how that fits in!

I really identify with Ruby, because I'm a lot like that, though not as smart, and I have much broader and at least 1 thing that is more encompassing then Ruby's-books-and I do have some of those roles, though I don't intentionally play them, my mom says I can be 3 or 30. Yeah.

Loved who the bad guy turned out to be, because it was pretty much totally unexpected, except that it was one of the people that they ran into while doing the hasty search, and that it had to be one of those people because they discovered the body not long after she was murdered, and yeah.

Really enjoyed this book, and can't wait for the next one, where Nick is set up as the bad guy (set up as in by the bad guy for the writer to write him into hopefully proving the right bad guy, vs him actually being set up as the bad guy as the author) Yep.

Week 22 Review: Unchosen

From Goodreads:
I thought the worst of my reaper training was behind me… turns out I was wrong. Dead wrong.

Molly Bartolucci has done a lot of growing up but after being accused of using illegal magic at her school for necromancers, reaper-in-training Molly is treading lightly. As the destined leader of Anubis's Chosen, she needs to study hard, train harder, and stay out of trouble.

Uh, right.

It doesn't help that she's feeling more than academic about her melt-your-bones hot reaping instructor, Rath. And if her relationship drama isn't enough to drive her over the edge, she has to deal with mother issues, nosy little sisters, suspicious friends, and an unnamed force stalking her at school.

Then her family is attacked, and her bio-dad ends up comatose in the hospital. Now, Molly has to uncover who's trying to hurt her loved ones—and all without the help of Anubis.

My Review:
Oh, man, this was such a great book! I so totally enjoyed it, we got to see a bit more of this world, with the start of the trials to find the Daughter in Egyptian, Kebechet/Chosen, to the ending and the reason why the book is called Unchosen, because a task that Molly is sent on.

A task to find her dad and something else, because they're missing. Yeah, that's not good news to Molly, after all the training that she went through in this book in preparation for this contest, and now she has to drop out to do this task, not fun for Molly! And that's just the end of the book!

We find out who Irina really is, and how she's related to Molly, and then there's her aunt, who's warning her against something, and when they release her soul from Set, well, bad things happen because she was protecting Molly from someone, someone that comes closer and closer to killing Molly throughout this book, and I think that if you got 3 guesses, you wouldn't get who was after her!

The only thing about this book that I didn't like, was that it was too short, and we didn't get enough story, or characters, or plot, and that makes me sad, because it was an excellent book, and I wanted more of it, because yeah, it was really good!

Yeah, this was just a great book, and I can't wait for Unbroken!!!

Week 22 Review: Rebel

From Goodreads:
The sequel to the action-packed Reboot is a can't-miss thrill ride, perfect for fans of James Patterson, Veronica Roth, and Marie Lu.

After coming back from death as Reboots and being trained by HARC as soldiers, Wren and Callum have finally escaped north, where they hope to find a life of freedom. But when they arrive at the Reboot Reservation, it isn't what they expected. Under the rule of a bloodthirsty leader, Micah, the Reboots are about to wage an all-out war on the humans. Although Wren's instincts are telling her to set off into the wilderness on their own and leave the battle far behind, Callum is unwilling to let his human family be murdered. When Micah commits the ultimate betrayal, the choice is made for them. But Micah has also made a fatal mistake . . . he's underestimated Wren and Callum.

The explosive finale to the Reboot duology is full of riveting action and steamy love scenes as Wren and Callum become rebels against their own kind.

My Review:
I absolutely loved this book! It was so good, and interesting! And while I admit that I've pretty much forgotten what happened in Rebel, and what the terms mean, but that didn't mean that I didn't enjoy this book, because I most definitely did!

Loved how they won, by working together, and not being species-ist, between humans and Reboots. And I loved the nicknames that they could have, Huboot, or other half and half names, because they were really just awesome!!

Loved the confrontation in their romance, if Callum was really seeing Wren for herself or not, or just seeing what he wanted to see, and that was just great, because people, even Reboots who are evolved humans, don't always get along!

The ending? With Wren sitting by a new reboot, and saying that it didn't matter how long it'd been since they rebooted? That was such a sweet ending, and brought home what this series to me, seemed to be about, about differences, and how the ones that people think are bad, just don't matter!

Yeah, I really enjoyed this book, and it was really good! Can't wait to see what Amy Tintera writes next!!!

Week 22 Review: How to Date a Nerd

From Goodreads:
Zoe has a great pair of legs, perky boobs, and wears exactly what she needs to show it all off. She works hard for the easy sleazy 'you only wish you were me' reputation, burying who she really is—an all-out nerd.

The only time Zoe gets to be herself is when she hides under her comforter to read X-Men comics, sending jealousy stabs at everyone who attends Comic-Con. Keeping up her popular rep is too important, and she's so damn insecure to care about the consequences. But when Zoe's sister takes her car for a 'crash and burn into a tree' joyride, her parents get her a replacement. A manual. Something she doesn’t know how to operate, but her next door neighbor Zak sure as heck does.

Zak's a geek to the core, shunned by everyone in school for playing Dungeons and Dragons at lunch and wearing "Use the Force" t-shirts. And Zoe's got it bad for the boy. Only Zak doesn't want Popular Zoe. He wants Geek Zoe.

She has to shove her insecurities and the fear of dropping a few rungs on the social ladder aside to prove to Zak who she really is and who she wants to be… if she can figure it out herself.

My Review:
This was just such a nice, sweet book! It reminded me of The Summer I Became a Nerd, of a girl who is popular, and hides her non-popular aspects, falls in love with a nerd, and things change, for the better or the worse, though it's usually worse, then better!

I enjoyed their romance, it was nice and sweet, and while Zoe made some mistakes, to keep her popularity, her reputation, intact, well, they still worked well together, and yeah, I just really enjoyed their relationships, the ups and the downs, because it was really good!!!

Separately, this was just full of great characters! Because Zak was sweet and cute, enjoyable, and himself, he didn't change himself so that he could be popular, he was himself, and withstanding that kind of peer pressure, that takes a strong person!

Yeah, this was just a really great book, that I really enjoyed!

Week 22 Review: The Butterfly Sister

From Goodreads:
"My past was never more than one thought, one breath, one heartbeat away. And then, on that particular October evening, it literally arrived at my doorstep."

Eight months after dropping out of Tarble, an all-women's college, twenty-two-year-old Ruby Rousseau is still haunted by the memories of her senior year-a year marred by an affair with her English professor and a deep depression that not only caused her to question her own sanity but prompted a failed suicide attempt.

And then a mysterious paisley print suitcase arrives, bearing Ruby's name and address on the tag. When Ruby tries to return the luggage to its rightful owner, Beth Richards, her dorm mate at Tarble, she learns that Beth disappeared two days earlier, and the suitcase is the only tangible evidence as to her whereabouts.

Consumed by the mystery of the missing girl and the contents of the luggage-a tattered copy of Virginia Woolf's A Room of One's Own, the book on which Ruby based her senior thesis, and which she believes instigated her madness-she sets out to uncover the truth, not only about Beth Richards's past but also her own. In doing so, Ruby is forced to reexamine the people from her past: the professor who whisked her away to New Orleans and then shattered her heart and the ghosts of dead women writers who beckoned her to join their illustrious group. And when Ruby's storyline converges with Beth's in a way she never imagined, she returns to the one place she swore she never would: her alma mater.

My Review:
I really enjoyed this book! It was fun, and it was exactly how Meg Cabot described it in her blurb, and yeah, it was just a compelling mystery, and I got to learn about some English College level stuff, since I didn't go that route in college!

I loved the diary entries, and the twist behind them, because I thought that it was Ruby's entries, but then who it turns out to be? And how Ruby comments when she read them, that she could've written them? That was pretty cool, and pretty creepy too!

This book was about a teacher having an affair with his student, and then moving on, and the reactions those students had to his leaving them. Oh, and how he was grading their end of semester project, he'd give it a D, and then take it, and publish it as his own. So yeah, he was a sleazy dirt bag!

The mystery behind Beth's disappearance, and possible murder, that was interesting, intriguing, and exciting! (Yes, I know, but I couldn't think of another "i" word) There were lots of little clues, like every other sentence added a piece to the puzzle, even if you didn't know it at the time!

I really enjoyed this book, it was a really nice, and yeah, can't wait to see what Amy Gail Hansen writes next!!!

Week 22 Review: City of Heavenly Fire

From Goodreads:
ΕRCHOMAI, SEBASTIAN HAD SAID.

I am coming.

Darkness returns to the Shadowhunter world. As their society falls apart around them, Clary, Jace, Simon and their friends must band together to fight the greatest evil the Nephilim have ever faced: Clary's own brother. Nothing in the world can defeat him — must they journey to another world to find the chance?

My Review:
I absolutely, positively, 100 thousand percent, loved this book, so much, I mean, I spread the book love!!! Made sure that my family got copies, so that they would read this book, and love it as much as I do, because I am full of love for this book!!!

There were lots of funny bits, from DTR, and Simon's confusion on what that meant (define the relationship, for those like me, and Simon, who didn't know what it meant) to the pyjamas, flying death turtles, to so much more that I actually forgot already! Mostly because I didn't write this review right after reading it like I wanted to. Bad me!

So much happens in this book, and while the tagline is "who will survive the final battle" thing, nobody that we know dies during the actual final battle but the bad guys. It's getting to the final battle where the ones we know die, and the 2 main ones, their deaths came at quite a shock!

I felt bad for Maya, and the guilt that she felt, but she really took charge, and kicked some butt, and helped out in a lot of ways! We also got to meet Emma, and Julian, and the majority of the cast for the series set after this one, The Dark Artifices, apparently, this one set up quite a bit of plot up for Lady Midnight and onward, so yeah, that was pretty great!

I loved how Brother Zachariah became just Zachariah, which we knew happened because of the epilogue of Clockwork Princess, but this was how it happened, so that was just great! And while he hasn't gone back to being known as Jem, and he hasn't told Emma that he was related to her (though she was wondering how he knew her middle name) and how Tessa didn't tell Jace how she's his so many great, grandmother, and that they're going to be told (the younger generation) sometime in the new series when it's important! I also loved how Church was nice to Jem, and how everyone thought that was impossible, but then they take him, and Isabelle is afronted, that was pretty funny!

This was such a fantastic read, and such a great end to the series and I loved reading it!

Week 22 Reviews: A Dawn Most Wicked, Something Strange and Deadly, A Darkness Strange and Lovely, Strange and Ever After

From Goodreads:
Daniel Sheridan is an engineer's apprentice on a haunted Mississippi steamer known as the Sadie Queen. His best friend–the apprentice pilot, Cassidy Cochran–also happens to be the girl he's pining for … and the captain's daughter. But when it looks like the Sadie Queen might get taken off the river, Daniel and Cassidy have to do whatever they can to stop the ghosts that plague the ship.

Fortunately, there happens to be a Creole gentleman on board by the name of Joseph Boyer–and he just might be able to help them …

From Goodreads:
The year is 1876, and there's something strange and deadly loose in Philadelphia…

Eleanor Fitt has a lot to worry about. Her brother has gone missing, her family has fallen on hard times, and her mother is determined to marry her off to any rich young man who walks by. But this is nothing compared to what she's just read in the newspaper—

The Dead are rising in Philadelphia.

And then, in a frightening attack, a zombie delivers a letter to Eleanor…from her brother.

Whoever is controlling the Dead army has taken her brother as well. If Eleanor is going to find him, she'll have to venture into the lab of the notorious Spirit-Hunters, who protect the city from supernatural forces. But as Eleanor spends more time with the Spirit-Hunters, including their maddeningly stubborn yet handsome inventor, Daniel, the situation becomes dire. And now, not only is her reputation on the line, but her very life may hang in the balance.

From Goodreads:
Following an all-out battle with the walking Dead, the Spirit Hunters have fled Philadelphia, leaving Eleanor alone to cope with the devastating aftermath. But there's more trouble ahead—the evil necromancer Marcus has returned, and his diabolical advances have Eleanor escaping to Paris to seek the help of Joseph, Jie, and the infuriatingly handsome Daniel once again. When she arrives, however, she finds a whole new darkness lurking in this City of Light. As harrowing events unfold, Eleanor is forced to make a deadly decision that will mean life or death for everyone.

From Goodreads:
He took her brother, he took her mother, and now, Marcus has taken her good friend Jie. With more determination than ever to bring this sinister man to justice, Eleanor heads to the hot desert streets of nineteenth-century Egypt in hopes of ending this nightmare. But in addition to her increasingly tense relationships with Daniel, Joseph, and her demon, Oliver, Eleanor must also deal with her former friend, Allison, who has curiously entangled herself in Eleanor’s mission.

With the rising dead chomping at her every move and Jie's life hanging in the balance, Eleanor is convinced that her black magic will see her through to the bitter end. But there will be a price. Though she and the Spirit Hunters have weathered every battle thus far, there will be consequences to suffer this time—the effects of which will be irreversible. And when it’s over, only some will be able to live a strange and ever after.

My first review of Something Strange and Deadly, A Darkness Strange and Lovely
My Review:
I really enjoyed these books, even when they were breaking my heart! We get the story of Daniel being in love for the first time, and meeting the group that would become the Spirit Hunters, to Something, Darkness, and then Strange, the ending to the series, the one that broke my heart!

Loved the Daniel story, where we got to see Daniel before he met up with Joseph and Jie, and how he actually met up with him, a story that we were told, but this, reading it as it was happening? That was just pretty epic, and funny! The only question I have is, what was the bad thing that happened that made Daniel and his mom leave that job that she had? I know she was screaming, but I'd really like to know why!

I had actually forgot most of what happened in Something, which was pretty bad, because what happened was so awesome! I mean, it's where Eleanor and Daniel meet (side note, my granny's name is Eleanor, and my dad, her son, is name is Daniel, though he goes by Dan) and why he calls her Empress, and the stealing the dynamite scene, and her brother, and her magic, and her hand! Such a great book, with pain and suffering, but a wonderful mystery and romance, too!!!

And Strange! How you broke my heart with betrayals, and the results of those betrayals! Though really, it was one big betrayal, that happened slowly over the series! Starting with her mom being dead, to their travels to Egypt, to giving up Ollie and their connection, to the ending? Broken heart town, here I come! I really enjoyed the building of the world that we got in this book, that expanded on Darkness, with the Jackal and how he's an Egyptian god and all.

But that ending! So sad, but then also, a good ending, they defeated the bad guys, and they're going to open up a school to teach the strange things that are their skills! But it was sad too, because they took hits, the above betrayal and results of it, that hit hardest! But I'm not saying what happened, because spoiler, and writing it down makes it more real!

Yeah, I really loved this series, it was so good, and I can't wait for Truthwitch to come out!!!

Week 22 Review: Trial by Fire

From Goodreads:
Love burns. Worlds collide. Magic reigns.

This world is trying to kill Lily Proctor. Her life-threatening allergies keep her from enjoying many of the experiences that other teenagers take for granted...which is why she is determined to enjoy her first (and perhaps only) high-school party. But Lily's life never goes according to plan, and after a humiliating incident in front of half her graduating class Lily wishes she could just disappear.

Suddenly Lily is in a different Salem - one overrun with horrifying creatures and ruled by powerful women called Crucibles. Strongest and cruellest of all the Crucibles is Lillian . . . Lily's identical other self in this alternate universe. This new version of her world is terrifyingly sensual, and Lily is soon overwhelmed by new experiences.

Lily realizes that what makes her weak at home is exactly what makes her extraordinary in New Salem. It also puts her life in danger. Thrown into a world she doesn't understand, Lily is torn between responsibilities she can't hope to shoulder alone, and a love she never expected.

But how can Lily be the saviour of this world when she is literally her own worst enemy?

My Review:
This book, I absolutely loved it! And it totally deserved the honour (in my mind) of being read on my birthday! I just had to read this book, it's by Josephine Angelini, it's the start of a brand new epic, amazing and wonderful series, and it just had to be read!!!

I loved the world that Lily went to, where there's magic, and science, and doctors, and teachers of elements of either, are the bad guys. Oh, and where there's another her, a Lillian, who is the bad guy, who's lived a life without the sickness of Lily because she used her magic as a Crucible-as a Witch, all her life, where she's the most powerful of the whole group. And Lily has that same power, if not the same training and skill in using it quite yet.

I loved how the crucibles worked, and how the magic worked, and the mechanics, like Rowen, helped them, knew them and their bodies more intimately then they knew themselves, how magic could be used, like the stones that I forgot their names for everyone, to the 4th level with fire-which is why in the Lillian Salem, why witches survived the whole hunt for them way back when.

At first, I thought the thing with Rowen, was that Lillian had killed him. But then we meet him, and he hates Lillian, and by extension, Lily. But as they go along, he rediscovers the reason why he loved Lillian, and new ones to love Lily. So I feel a bit sorry for him, falling in love with 2 versions of the same person, one that did something horrible to him (that we find out) and another that hasn't, and seems to be going in the direction of good!

I cannot tell how much I loved this book, and I can't wait for the 2nd book after that ending!!!

My Week Break!!!

So I've been waiting for May to be over, and starting June 7th, I'll be having a whole week, where I'm not going to have any books that I want to read, officially, I know I'm going to read some, but it's going to be a nice and relaxing week, not feeling like I should get this book read, and yeah, that'll be a nice break!
