Week 35 Review: The Emperor's Soul

From Goodreads:
A novella from #1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson, The Emperor's Soul showcases a fascinating magic system as the clock ticks down for a condemned criminal.

When Shai is caught replacing the Moon Scepter with her nearly flawless forgery, she must bargain for her life. An assassin has left the Emperor Ashravan without consciousness, a circumstance concealed only by the death of his wife. If the emperor does not emerge after his hundred-day mourning period, the rule of the Heritage Faction will be forfeit and the empire will fall into chaos.

Shai is given an impossible task: to create—to Forge—a new soul for the emperor in less than one hundred days. But her soul-Forgery is considered an abomination by her captors. She is confined to a tiny, dirty chamber, guarded by a man who hates her, spied upon by politicians, and trapped behind a door sealed in her own blood. Shai's only possible ally is the emperor's most loyal councillor, Gaotona, who struggles to understand her true talent.

Time is running out for Shai. Forging, while deducing the motivations of her captors, she needs a perfect plan to escape…

My Review:
This story was so fantastic, I enjoyed it so much, and I'm glad I was able to fit it in, because I really want to read The Final Empire for the next week! I loved seeing more of this world, it's Elantris, but it's also Cosmere, and I can't wait to see how it all connects in the story. I've kinda already know how since I've read it on the internet, but I want to see it in the story!

This world with forgers and soulstamps was so interesting! And the fact that they're despised by the Empire, well, just makes the fact that they desperately need one to keep the current Emperor in power-so that they stay in power-was such a delicious conundrum to solve! I mean, can you say hypocrite?

I loved how detailed Shai is, that her craft takes, how to know how a personality is built. She really had to get to know the Emperor from reading his diaries, from talking to Gaotona, who knew him. Adding in that she knows they're planning on killing her, but she wants to create this challenging soulstone, well, it was just amazing!

I just loved that ending, that all the little things came together, like what her personal soulstamp's did. And that Gaotona realized some of what he was wrong about, becuase he was. And that she actually did all that hard work in such a short period of time-and that she thwarted the various council leaders. Such a wonderful ending! I loved it!

Loved reading this, it was so fantastic, and really enjoyable, and I can't wait to read more of the Cosmere!
