Week 5 Reviews: File No. 002, Sleeping Giants, File No. 247, Waking Gods, File No. 1743

Read Sylvain Neuvel's Exclusive Lost Themis File!

From Goodreads:
An inventive debut in the tradition of World War Z and The Martian, told in interviews, journal entries, transcripts, and news articles, Sleeping Giants is a thriller fueled by a quest for truth—and a fight for control of earthshaking power.

A girl named Rose is riding her new bike near her home in Deadwood, South Dakota, when she falls through the earth. She wakes up at the bottom of a square hole, its walls glowing with intricate carvings. But the firemen who come to save her peer down upon something even stranger: a little girl in the palm of a giant metal hand.

Seventeen years later, the mystery of the bizarre artifact remains unsolved—its origins, architects, and purpose unknown. Its carbon dating defies belief; military reports are redacted; theories are floated, then rejected.

But some can never stop searching for answers.

Rose Franklin is now a highly trained physicist leading a top secret team to crack the hand’s code. And along with her colleagues, she is being interviewed by a nameless interrogator whose power and purview are as enigmatic as the provenance of relic. What’s clear is that Rose and her compatriots are on the edge of unraveling history's most perplexing discovery—and figuring out what it portends for humanity. But once the pieces of the puzzle are in place, will the result prove to be an instrument of lasting peace or a weapon of mass destruction?

A new Themis Files to read.

As a child, Rose Franklin made an astonishing discovery: a giant metallic hand, buried deep within the earth. As an adult, she's dedicated her brilliant scientific career to solving the mystery that began that fateful day: Why was a titanic robot of unknown origin buried in pieces around the world? Years of investigation have produced intriguing answers—and even more perplexing questions. But the truth is closer than ever before when a second robot, more massive than the first, materializes and lashes out with deadly force.

Now humankind faces a nightmare invasion scenario made real, as more colossal machines touch down across the globe. But Rose and her team at the Earth Defense Corps refuse to surrender. They can turn the tide if they can unlock the last secrets of an advanced alien technology. The greatest weapon humanity wields is knowledge in a do-or-die battle to inherit the Earth . . . and maybe even the stars.

My Review
:
Oh wow, this was such a fantastic series! I loved how it started off with a girl falling into a giant robot hand, and everything that it built to! It was so unique and so interesting, and that it's a series of files, both interviews and private notes and letters, they were so great to read!

I'm so glad that I listened to the audiobooks of these books. I'm pretty sure the term is full cast, because every character had a voice actor, and oh, it was so excellent, it was really easy to tell each of the characters apart! Plus each file had a note on who was the main subject, and where it was taking place.

Honestly, I'm not sure who my favourite character is. The nameless guy was so fascinating, he had a ton of information, and had a lot of power, and was really invested in this project. Dr. Rose Franklin, and how she's connected to the robot, and all that happens to her and the questions that she has. And then there's Kara and Vincent, who end up the pilots of Themis. They worked together so well, and I loved their dynamics!

There's so much that goes on in these books, so many politics, starting off with the first book in bringing all the pieces together, learning about it, and some interesting turns. And the second book, when they're faced with the aliens that created Themis in the first place. I couldn't get enough! Waking Gods had some really incredible moments! And that ending was evil! I need to know what's going to happen next! That one file that comes between books 2 and 3 was pretty ominous, combined with the synopsis of book 3!

I loved reading these books, and I can't wait to finish out the series!
