Wrote that Review Update #516, June 30th

Create your own banner at mybannermaker.com!
If you want to participate, set a certain amount of reviews to write, and once you make that goal, you can get a reward!

My reviews to reward is writing all of the reviews of the week, and I motivated myself to write my review for That Night, Pretty Furious, Have You Seen This Girl, The Ones that Come Back Hungry, Death at Morning House, Beneath These Cursed Stars, My Fair Brody, Cool for the Summer, A Bright Heart, Keep This to Yourself, What the Woods Took, Otherworldly, Reign of the Fallen, A Ruse of Shadows, Sunbringer, Voyage of the Damned, A Complicated Love Story Set in Space, The Unwedding, The Fate of Magic, In Want of a Suspect, All's Fair in Love and Treachery, Can't Spell Tea Without Treason, Primal Mirror, Into the Abyss and The Edge of the Abyss, The Cursed Rose, The Paradise Problem, Nameless Queen, The Gravity of Us and After the Launch, so I have 28 of 28 reviews written!

And as always, I want to review this week's reviews!

What about you guys? Happy reading!

How Well I Stuck to It #519, June 30th

So I decided that I should have accountability on sticking to what should be in a week, so I'm doing How Well I Stuck to It every Sunday, because my schedule should be fixed in by now!

Week 27:
Nothing Planned!

Another free week to start off the month, I have plenty of TBR's to read, and while there are some new books that I'm dying to read for, I'm going to try and take it easy after how hard I just went!

Week 26:
Nothing Planned!

vs.

That Night by Cyn Balog, Pretty Furious by E.K. Johnson, Have You Seen This Girl by Nita Tyndall, The Ones that Come Back Hungry by Amelinda Bérubé, Death at Morning House by Maureen Johnson, Beneath These Cursed Stars by Lexi Ryan, My Fair Brody by Brian D. Kennedy, Cool for the Summer by Dahlia Adler, A Bright Heart by Kate Chenli, Keep This to Yourself by Tom Ryan, What the Woods Took by Courtney Gould, Otherworldly by F.T. Lukens, Reign of the Fallen by Sarah Glenn Marsh, A Ruse of Shadows by Sherry Thomas, Sunbringer by Hannah Kaner, Voyage of the Damned by Frances White, A Complicated Love Story Set in Space by Shaun David Hutchinson, The Unwedding by Allie Condie, The Fate of Magic by Beth Revis and Sara Raasch, In Want of a Suspect by Tirzah Price, All's Fair in Love and Treachery by Celeste Connally, Can't Spell Tea Without Treason by Rebecca Thorne, Primal Mirror by Nalini Singh, Into the Abyss by Emily Skrutskie, The Edge of the Abyss by Emily Skrutskie, The Cursed Rose by Leslie Vedder, The Paradise Problem by Christina Lauren, Nameless Queen by Rebecca McLaughlin,The Gravity of Us by Phil Stamper, After the Launch by Phil Stamper

Just a free week to read what I wanted, and I did, I've almost completed all of my TBR's for this month, so I'm really happy with that, and I can't wait for next week! What about you guys? Happy reading!

Wheel of TBR #214, June 30th

I saw Codie's Book Corner doing the Wheel of TBR, and I thought that sounded like a great way to pick what to read from your TBR. So thanks to her! I'll only do 3 spins, because I'm doing this every week, and so it won't make up my total TBR of the week, but it'll be a start!

Rules:
1. For each week of the month, I'll do 3 spins each week to read each week though I do have the rest of the month to read them. Once a prompt is used, I'll randomly choose one from the list, keeping track of how often a colour comes up. If colour comes up 3 or more times in month, I'll do another spin once it comes up 3 times.
2. If I don't read a book that week or at least start it before the end of the month, then for my next week of spins, I have to add a punishment for each book unread. I'll roll for each unread book, and have to apply each and every punishment chosen to the week.
3. Each month I'll get a prompt from my Binge Read Wheel (either specifically picking the prompt, or spinning the wheel) and I have to read at least 9 books, though I can read more!

Of the books from the last week, I read Sunbringer by Hannah Kaner, Nameless Queen by Rebecca McLaughlin, and The Gravity of Us by Phil Stamper.

Binge Read Wheel:
For this month, the wheel chose Ebook TBR. I read Pretty Furious by E.K. Kennedy, A Bright Heart by Kate Chenli, Keep This to Yourself by Tom Ryan, What the Woods Took by Courtney Gould, Otherworldly by F.T. Lukens, A Ruse of Shadows by Sherry Thomas, Voyage of the Damned by Frances White, A Complicated Love Story Set in Space by Shaun David Hutchinson, The Unwedding by Allie Condie, The Fate of Magic by Beth Revis and Sara Raasch, In Want of a Suspect by Tirzah Price, All's Fair in Love and Treachery by Celeste Connally, Into the Abyss by Emily Skrutskie, The Edge of the Abyss by Emily Skrutskie, The Cursed Rose by Leslie Vedder, Here We Go Again by Alison Cochrane, We Kept Her in the Cellar by by W. R. Gorman, Questions I Want to Ask You by Michelle Falkoff, so I've read 47/9+.

For this coming month, the wheel chose Yearly TBR.

Prompts Used This Week:

Word-Red-Champion-The Savior's Champion by Jenna Moreci-Champion is in the title, so that works!

Booktuber Read-Chartreuse-Children of Anguish and Anarchy by Tomi Adeyemi-This book in particular isn't a booktuber read, but the first book was really big, so I'm counting it!

Week 26 Reviews: The Gravity of Us, After the Launch

As a successful social media journalist with half a million followers, seventeen-year-old Cal is used to sharing his life online. But when his pilot father is selected for a highly publicized NASA mission to Mars, Cal and his family relocate from Brooklyn to Houston and are thrust into a media circus.

Amidst the chaos, Cal meets sensitive and mysterious Leon, another "Astrokid," and finds himself falling head over heels—fast. As the frenzy around the mission grows, so does their connection. But when secrets about the program are uncovered, Cal must find a way to reveal the truth without hurting the people who have become most important to him.

Expertly capturing the thrill of first love and the self-doubt all teens feel, debut author Phil Stamper is a new talent to watch.

For fans of The Gravity of Us - a glimpse of Cal and Leon's life one year after the launch.

In Houston, NASA's mission to Mars brought "Astrokids" Cal and Leon together. Back in New York one year later, Cal is excited to show his boyfriend the city and finally introduce him to his best friend, Deb, but everything feels different, from the ads posted in Times Square to the location of Cal's favorite falafel cart. Deb has new friends, a new apartment - a new life - and Cal isn't sure of his place in it anymore. Though all Cal wanted a year ago was to come back to Brooklyn, he no longer feels like he belongs.

Phil Stamper brings his signature heart, wisdom, and romance to this touching The Gravity of Us short story.

Week 26 Review: Nameless Queen

From Goodreads:
One girl must make a name for herself--or die trying --in this royal fantasy where an unknown peasant becomes the ultimate ruler. But how long can she keep the crown if everyone wants her dead? Perfect for fans of Furyborn, Red Queen, and Everless.

Everyone expected the king's daughter would inherit the throne. No one expected me.

It shouldn't even be possible. I'm Nameless, a class of citizens so disrespected, we don't even get names. Heck, dozens of us have been going missing for months and no one seems to care.

But there's no denying the tattoo emblazoned on my arm. I am to be queen. In a palace where the corridors are more dangerous the streets, though, how could I possibly rule? And what will become of the Nameless if I don't?

My Review:
This book had me hooked from the first chapter. The synopsis sounded really interesting and I really enjoyed seeing this society with the Nameless which are really looked down upon being named as the next heir-it was such a disruption of their society and I loved it!

The idea of Nameless, that they don't have a real, legal name in terms of the magic and the world, and take something as their name, that's pretty awful, and it feels like, to me, someone who's never been affected by it so doesn't have a qualified opinion, of a magnification of the problem that is the way that people on the outskirts of society are treated, those that are homeless, who have no one who can or are willing to help them. It sucks and it shouldn't exist, and that focus is amplified by the magic of the world.

That the naming of the predecessor for who rules the land, requiring a name, well, how could Coin, a Nameless, be named Queen if she doesn't have a name? That was a really interesting discussion, but things did mainly focus on passing the throne onto someone else.

The backstory, and how everything came to be like this, that was really fascinating, and a little bit heartbreaking, how much pain and suffering was caused. But I loved how the pieces came together, to see why things ended up the way that they did. Plus that final battle was pretty spectacular!

Loved reading this book and I’d love to read more by Rebecca McLaughlin!

Week 26 Review: The Paradise Problem

From Goodreads:
Christina Lauren, the instant New York Times bestselling and "reigning romance queens" (PopSugar), returns with a delicious new romance between the buttoned-up heir of a grocery chain and his free-spirited artist ex as they fake their relationship in order to receive a massive inheritance.

Anna Green thought she was marrying Liam "West" Weston for access to subsidized family housing while at UCLA. She also thought she'd signed divorce papers when the graduation caps were tossed, and they both went on their merry ways.

Three years later, Anna is a starving artist living paycheck to paycheck while West is a Stanford professor. He may be one of four heirs to the Weston Foods conglomerate, but he has little interest in working for the heartless corporation his family built from the ground up. He is interested, however, in his one-hundred-million-dollar inheritance. There's just one catch.

Due to an antiquated clause in his grandfather's will, Liam won't see a penny until he's been happily married for five years. Just when Liam thinks he's in the home stretch, pressure mounts from his family to see this mysterious spouse, and he has no choice but to turn to the one person he's afraid to introduce to his one-percenter parents—his unpolished, not-so-ex-wife.

But in the presence of his family, Liam's fears quickly shift from whether the feisty, foul-mouthed, paint-splattered Anna can play the part to whether the toxic world of wealth will corrupt someone as pure of heart as his surprisingly grounded and loyal wife. Liam will have to ask himself if the price tag on his flimsy cover story is worth losing true love that sprouted from a lie.

Week 26 Review: The Cursed Rose

From Goodreads:
The fate of a cursed kingdom rests on ancient secrets, broken promises, and fierce friendships in this gasp-worthy final book of the bestselling twisted fairytale Bone Spindle series.

Not all curses should be broken. Not all fairytales end happily ever after.

Fi is a prisoner. Briar, a monster.
Shane's a warrior. And Red is a traitor.

What was once a formidable group of four fighting to reawaken the kingdom is now ruptured, torn apart by the wicked Spindle Witch.

Confined to a tower with the monstrous Briar Rose, Fi is caught in the Spindle Witch's ever-tightening web. With the Spindle Witch on the verge of finding the Siphoning Spells and crushing Andar—with Fi's help, no less—Fi's only hope lies in decoding the ancient riddle of the Rose Witches before she loses Briar forever.

Shane is desperate to save Andar—and her partner. She's on the hunt for a weapon left by the mysterious Lord of the Butterflies, which holds the key to the Spindle Witch's demise. Her love for Red has only fortified. But Red's betrayal puts her in danger from a new enemy—the Spindle Witch's executioner, the Wraith, a witch as powerful as he is cruel.

The future of Andar lies in the secrets of its past. Fi and Shane must take on the greatest lost ruin of them all—the Tomb of Queen Aurora.

Filled with vicious bone monsters, new alliances, and surprises at every turn, prepare to be swept away by this taut, clever, and heart-filled series conclusion.

Week 26 Reviews: Into the Abyss, The Edge of the Abyss

From Goodreads:
INTO THE ABYSS is the story of the day Swift met Santa Elena

When thirteen-year-old Swift Kent's stepmother abandons her family for adventure on the high seas, Swift makes it her mission bring her back to save her family from starvation. But Swift learns there may be another way to help her family, one that takes her far away from everything she's ever known.

From Goodreads:
Three weeks have passed since Cassandra Leung pledged her allegiance to the ruthless pirate-queen Santa Elena and set free Bao, the sea monster Reckoner she'd been forced to train. The days as a pirate trainee are long and grueling, but it's not the physical pain that Cas dreads most. It's being forced to work with Swift, the pirate girl who broke her heart.

But Cas has even bigger problems when she discovers that Bao is not the only monster swimming free. Other Reckoners illegally sold to pirates have escaped their captors and are taking the NeoPacific by storm, attacking ships at random and ruining the ocean ecosystem. As a Reckoner trainer, Cas might be the only one who can stop them. But how can she take up arms against creatures she used to care for and protect?

Will Cas embrace the murky morals that life as a pirate brings or perish in the dark waters of the NeoPacific?

Week 26 Review: Primal Mirror

New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh takes us into a family dark with shadowy secrets, as the world of the Psy hangs on the edge of a final catastrophic collapse…

Daughter of two ruthless high-gradient telepaths, Auden Scott is not the child her Psy parents wanted or expected, even before her brain injury. Her thoughts are scattered, her memories fuzzy—or just terrifyingly blank. The only thing she knows for certain is that she must protect her unborn baby…a baby she has no recollection of conceiving and who draws an abnormal intensity of notice from her dead mother's closest associates.

Leopard alpha Remi Denier is a man driven by the primal instinct to protect. Protect his pack, protect his allies… and protect the mysterious woman who has become a most unlikely neighbor. With eerie eyes that see too much and a scent that alters in ways disturbing and impossible, Auden Scott is the enemy…but nothing about this strange Psy is what it seems, Remi's feline heart as fascinated by her as the human half of his soul.

Then Auden asks Remi to help her shatter the wall of secrets that is the Scott bloodline. What they unearth will reveal a nightmare beyond imagination. This time, the battle is to the death…

My Review:
I had such a fantastic time reading this book! I just love her writing so much, and this world is so wonderful, I love the characters that inhabit it, and watching them fall in love while they deal with the problems that the Psy are currently facing, I can't get enough and have to keep reading!

Reading about Auden, who is the Scotts daughter, as in, the Scott who has been the bad guy of this series, was really interesting. That she has some metal stuff going on, like she's in a daze, with limited memory retention-I had to know what was going on.

Auden didn't consent to becoming pregnant. But that child is the center of her world, she is such a fierce and loving mother! Which works well with Remi, because protection is a big thing for alphas. They were so heartwarming to see with one another!

What this book added to the world, what it gave them, was so great, and I'm so glad that they got it, and I can't wait to see what they're going to do with it! Though that bit with Pax, oh, I really hope he gets his own story soon, because I don't want to lose him!

Loved reading this book so much and I can't wait for the next installment in the series!

Week 26 Review: Can't Spell Treason Without Tea

From Goodreads:
In the tradition of Legends & Lattes, comes a cozy fantasy steeped in sapphic romance about one of the Queen's private guards and a powerful mage who want to open a bookshop and live happily ever after…if only the world would let them.

All Reyna and Kianthe want is to open a bookshop that serves tea. Worn wooden floors, plants on every table, firelight drifting between the rafters… all complemented by love and good company. Thing is, Reyna works as one of the Queen's private guards, and Kianthe is the most powerful mage in existence. Leaving their lives isn't so easy.

But after an assassin takes Reyna hostage, she decides she's thoroughly done risking her life for a self-centered queen. Meanwhile, Kianthe has been waiting for a chance to flee responsibility–all the better that her girlfriend is on board. Together, they settle in Tawney, a town nestled in the icy tundra near dragon country, and open the shop of their dreams.

What follows is a cozy tale of mishaps, mysteries, and a murderous queen throwing the realm's biggest temper tantrum. In a story brimming with hurt/comfort and quiet fireside conversations, these two women will discover just what they mean to each other… and the world.

My Review:
I had such a fun time reading this book! The idea of this powerful mage, and a corrupt queen's guard running away together to start a book and tea shop, sounds pretty nice! I adored reading about these two as they set up their shop, and all the complications that came alongside it!

The humor with the puns, that's been carried into the titles of the books in this series? Absolutely love it! Because that's Kianthe's humour, and I love how that's been carried over to the titles of this series, just gives them that extra bit of personality!

I'm so glad that Reyna walked away from being a Queensguard. Even though that is dangerous, since none have before, well, she's the Arcandor's girlfriend, which adds both positives and negatives-it's a title that protectors her, but then it adds in all the politics.

Watching them find this place in this small town, dealing with the bandits from whom they whisked this building away from, to the two leaders of the town from the two countries that lay claim on it, and the townsfolk of Tawney, there was a lot of fun! Not to mention the dragons!

Loved reading this book and I can't wait to continue on with this series!

Week 26 Review: All's Fair in Love and Treachery

From Goodreads:
Bridgerton meets Agatha Christie in this dazzling next installment in a captivating Regency-era mystery series with a feminist spin.

21 June, 1815. London may be cheering the news of Napoleon's surrender at Waterloo, but Lady Petra Forsyth has little to celebrate after discovering that the death of her viscount fiancé three years earlier was no accident. Instead, it was murder, and the man responsible is her handsome, half-Scottish secret paramour Duncan Shawcross—yet the scoundrel has disappeared, leaving only a confusing riddle about long-forgotten memories in his wake.

So what's a lady to do when she can't hunt down her traitorous lover? She concentrates on a royal assignment instead. Queen Charlotte has tasked Petra with attending an event at the Asylum for Female Orphans and making inquiries surrounding the death of the orphanage's matron. What's more, the there may be a link between the matron's death and a group of radicals with ties to the aristocracy, as evidenced by an intercepted letter.

Then, Petra overhears a nefarious conversation with two other men about a plot to topple the monarchy, set to take place during three days of celebrations currently gripping London.

As the clock counts down and London's streets teem with revelers, Petra's nerves are fraying as her past and present collide. Yet while all's fair in love and war, she can never surrender, especially when more orphaned girls may be in trouble. And to save their lives, the monarchy itself, and even her own heart, Lady Petra must face her fears with the strength of an army of soldiers and fight with the heart of a queen.

My Review:
This was such a fantastic read! I really enjoyed the first one, and I was excited to see where this one would go! Lady Petra has a lot going on, with her personal life, and with what she's been tasked by the Queen to deal with, yeah, I had to keep reading!

Petra's personal life is in turmoil. The idea that her current lover might have killed her fiancé when it was thought to be an accident, yeah, that's a horrible thought. But given that her instigation into the death of a orphanage matron tied into his looking into a group trying to take down the monarchy, things are messy.

The Napoleon War might just have been settled for good (the internet told me that he stayed in exile until he died this time) but it was a time of upheaval, and now that it's over, society has to find it's footing again. But many don't want to go back to the way that it was, leading to plots against the monarchy that Petra gets tangled up with.

Absolutely loved the mystery, it was so intriguing to read, and I love following Petra as she investigates. This book had a lot going on, and it was all so great! And I'm glad that this is a series, so we'll get more time with her, and more mysteries to solve!

Loved reading this book, and I can't wait to read more by Celeste Connally!

Week 26 Review: In Want of a Suspect

From Goodreads:
The first book in a thrilling mystery duology that follows Lizzie Bennet and Mr. Darcy from the acclaimed Jane Austen Murder Mystery series!

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that London’s first female solicitor in possession of the details of a deadly crime, must be in want of a suspect.

The tenacious Lizzie Bennet has earned her place at Longbourn, her father’s law firm. Her work keeps her busy, but luckily it gives her plenty of reasons to consult (and steal occasional kisses) with Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy, a stern but secretly softhearted solicitor at Pemberley.

Lizzie is hired to investigate a deadly warehouse fire and to find the mysterious woman who was spotted at the scene moments before the flames took hold. But when the case leads to the sitting room of a woman Darcy once proposed marriage to, the delicate balance between personal and professional in their relationship is threatened.

Questions of the future are cast aside when the prime suspect is murdered and Lizzie’s own life is threatened. As the body count rises and their suspicions about what was really going on in the warehouse grow, the pressure is on for Lizzie and Darcy to uncover the truth.

Classic characters with an enthralling twist—Lizzie and Darcy, as introduced in the hit novel Pride and Premeditation, are back for more suspense, danger, and romance!
