Week 52 Reviews: Lament, Ballad

From Goodreads:
Sixteen-year-old Deirdre Monaghan is a painfully shy but prodigiously gifted musician. She's about to find out she's also a cloverhand—one who can see faeries. Deirdre finds herself infatuated with a mysterious boy who enters her ordinary suburban life, seemingly out of thin air. Trouble is, the enigmatic and gorgeous Luke turns out to be a gallowglass—a soulless faerie assassin. An equally hunky—and equally dangerous—dark faerie soldier named Aodhan is also stalking Deirdre. Sworn enemies, Luke and Aodhan each have a deadly assignment from the Faerie Queen. Namely, kill Deirdre before her music captures the attention of the Fae and threatens the Queen's sovereignty. Caught in the crossfire with Deirdre is James, her wisecracking but loyal best friend. Deirdre had been wishing her life weren't so dull, but getting trapped in the middle of a centuries-old faerie war isn't exactly what she had in mind . . .

From Goodreads:
In this mesmerizing sequel to Lament: The Faerie Queen's Deception, music prodigy James Morgan and his best friend, Deirdre, join a private conservatory for musicians. James' musical talent attracts Nuala, a soul-snatching faerie muse who fosters and feeds on the creative energies of exceptional humans until they die. Composing beautiful music together unexpectedly leads to mutual admiration and love. Haunted by fiery visions of death, James realizes that Deirdre and Nuala are being hunted by the Fey and plunges into a soul-scorching battle with the Queen of the Fey to save their lives.

My Review:
Oh, these were awesome books, if the first one was a bit harder to get into, well, I liked it a bit better then the second because I wanted more Luke, but after the events of Lament, well, he was busy with that whole thing. Which I can't quite remember, but I think it has something to do with getting his soul back, and troubles with being with the Fairies as long as he has. Yep.

Lament was mostly from the POV of Deirdre, and after Lament, she's tired of all the fairy stuff, so Ballad was mostly from the POV of James and Nuala. And Nuala is pretty unique, seeing who her dad is and all. And the whole finding out after the way she's shunned at Fairy parties, well, that was quite nice to read!

The plotting in these novels was really good, and the ways to save each other in each book, well, some characters were really brave, and sometimes very kinda dumb in the way they went around dealing with fairies. But yeah.

I really enjoyed the romance in these books. It might be forbidden romance, or romance that they knew was bad for them, but it was romance, and it was sweet at times, and heartbreaking at others, and it was just great to read!

These were really great books, and I can't wait for the last book to come out, and we finally have it coming out soon! Well, having Requiem coming out in 2013 isn't exactly soon, but it's better then it not coming out at all!
