Week 3 Review: Lies Beneath

From Goodreads:
Calder White lives in the cold, clear waters of Lake Superior, the only brother in a family of murderous mermaids. To survive, Calder and his sisters prey on humans, killing them to absorb their energy. But this summer the underwater clan targets Jason Hancock out of pure revenge. They blame Hancock for their mother's death and have been waiting a long time for him to return to his family's homestead on the lake. Hancock has a fear of water, so to lure him in, Calder sets out to seduce Hancock's daughter, Lily. Easy enough—especially as Calder has lots of practice using his irresistable good looks and charm on ususpecting girls. Only this time Calder screws everything up: he falls for Lily—just as Lily starts to suspect that there's more to the monsters-in-the-lake legends than she ever imagined. And just as his sisters are losing patience with him.

My Review:
Just let me say, I FREAKING LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!! It was so amazing, the cover is so pretty!!!! And the characters were real, with killer mermaids, and occasional merman. Because that's what Calder is. And who someone else is, but I'm not saying who, because it's important to the plot! And it was just such a fantastic book!

Calder was such a great narrator. He couldn't understand while Lily would kinda push him away, when most of the time, he has girls pretty much all over him because of his being a mer and all. And that little bit of confusion was so cute!!!! And then he was conflicted with Lily, and the deal that he made with his sisters with and about Jason Hancock, which is pretty dang important, what with how they blame him for their mother dying and all. Which would be traumatic and all, and compounded with that is the plot twist at the end! Not saying what, but it's pretty freaking amazing! It totally makes sense, too!

The cover is so pretty. It is honestly half the reason I wanted to read this book, the other being the killer mermaids and such. It has the light rays underwater, and the red/purple bleeding into the water from the mer swimming pretty fast, if the hair and the hands are any indication! The colours are so pretty! And yeah, it's just a fantastic cover!

I loved how Calder and Lily's relationship slowly developed, because she was fighting it, because he knew how he affected girls, and she knew that, and so she didn't really want to be with him, but then they do work, and yeah, I just wanted to read more about them! Lily was really smart, and was really mature, since most teens (including me! Especially me!) don't get along well with their families, and here Lily is, talking cordially with her dad, and little sister. Yeah. I really enjoyed that!

This was a spectacular book that just needs to be read when it comes out! It is just utterly fantastic, and I can't wait to read Water Lily, which Goodreads says is Lies Beneath told from Lily's POV, which will be fantastic! I want to know what she was thinking!!!
