First Lines Friday #35, March 2nd

First Lines Friday is a bookish meme hosted by Literary Marie of Precision Reviews. We encourage all of our fellow book bloggers and bookhearts to play along.

-Grab your current read(s)
-Share the first line(s)
-Include the title and author so that other FLF participants can add the book to their TBR Lists!

"The first time I saw him, a heavy, gray fog clung to the cornfields, tails of mist slithering between the dying stalks. It was a dreary early morning right after Labor Day, and I was waiting for the school bus, just minding my own business, standing at the end of the dirt lane that connected my family's farmhouse to the main road into town. I was thinking about how many times I'd probably waiting for that bus over the course of a dozen years, killing time like any mathlete would, by doing calculations in my head, which I noticed him." -Jessica's Guide to Dating the Dark Side by Beth Fantaskey
"Smoke from a dozen cigars and cigarillos filled the saloon, creating a gray mist that hung over the patrons' heads. George Turner, a man with a curious mix of races running through his blood, was playing the piano. Milly Taylor, a soprano who had survived by prostitution in this godforsaken hellhole, was singing about being in a gilded cage. The desert dust, which never seemed to really settle, joined with the miasma of smoke, and it was only the fact that the fiery red ball of the sun was finally settling that made it bearable to sit at the poker table."  -Nightwalker by Heather Graham

Well, those are some interesting lines! And in some really great books! What about you guys? Happy reading!

  1. Yes, very interesting first lines. Both books sound good. I can visualize the smoky room with a singer and poker table as described in Nightwalker.

Thanks for participating in FLF, as always!

  2. Yep :) I loved both! And it's kinda funny/great plotting who the singer's decedent is in the present of the book :)

This is an award free blog! Thanks for thinking of me but I just don't have the time to pass it along!
