Week 2 Review: Insignia

From Goodreads:
More than anything, Tom Raines wants to be important, though his shadowy life is anything but that. For years, Tom's drifted from casino to casino with his unlucky gambler of a dad, gaming for their survival. Keeping a roof over their heads depends on a careful combination of skill, luck, con artistry, and staying invisible.

Then one day, Tom stops being invisible. Someone's been watching his virtual-reality prowess, and he's offered the incredible--a place at the Pentagonal Spire, an elite military academy. There, Tom's instincts for combat will be put to the test and if he passes, he'll become a member of the Intrasolar Forces, helping to lead his country to victory in World War III. Finally, he'll be someone important: a superhuman war machine with the tech skills that every virtual-reality warrior dreams of. Life at the Spire holds everything that Tom's always wanted--friends, the possibility of a girlfriend, and a life where his every action matters--but what will it cost him?

My Review:
I loved this book so much! It was interesting, funny, entertaining, and such a well built world that was just horrible to the characters, and yeah, I just utterly loved reading it! I mean, there's a few things going on, and they were all pretty important.

Like his training, and all the knowledge that he was gaining, which was really cool, and all the funny things that happened, like the Guinevere thing, and how he managed to fight the bad guys even though he was trapped in the castle, or the piranha simulation, and he avenged his friend by eating the alligator's eye, and Elliot died in the crossfire. Or when there was a program attack and then it turned out that they really couldn't write any good programs. Too funny!

Then there's the political/economical thing going on, and how he's connecting to Medusa, the best fighter of their generation, and how they shouldn't be doing that, they're having fun fighting, and her always beating him. It was just too good!

There were a few enemies, and his mom's boyfriend, he was pretty evil, and all the guys he works with, I really didn't like them, they were a waste of humanity! And the one instructor, he enjoyed picking on Tom. But yeah, in the end, Tom wins against all of them, for now!

I really enjoyed this book, so much, and yeah, I can't wait to read more!
