The Warlord's Concubine: Review

From Goodreads:
Mirella often wonders what her life would've been like had she been born a princess, rather than the property of one.

When a dark warlord from the north conquers her princess' kingdom, however, he has plans for the dainty young future-queen. It makes the question all the more poignant, because now, more is at stake than just her rough treatment, but love and lust as well.

The Warlord’s Concubine is the tale of two women and the dark warlord that dictates their fate.

As an indentured servant and handmaiden to the princess for much of her life, the middle-aged Mirella sees the conquest of the land as an opportunity to elevate herself. Though as she earns the trust of their conquerors, she finds her own nature challenged as well. A life of callous disregard has made her hard, but as she battles the princess' will for the first time and finds new allies and friends, does she have what it takes to win the love and favour of the brutal warlord? Will love and friendship be her downfall? Or will her station in life yet again be her undoing?

My Review:
I almost always enjoyed reading this book, with almost all strong characters (strong in character, if they were to come off the page, not character in a book) and the romance was off the roof! Though not something that everyone will enjoy!

The princess, however, really got on my nerves, because I just finished reading The Princess Diaries, and Mia had princess lessons, and diplomacy, and she lives in the now, not the world this novel takes place in, where there would be more need of a strong, trained in princess-y stuff, in concerns to what was happening in the world and all, and yeah, it bugged me, her character, that she was that weak, and bad. Otherwise, I enjoyed this book!

The romance, well, yeah, it wasn't really romance, it was more erotica, no, it was erotica. But there was a relationship that grew between those two, and their son, and all the stuff there. And how they manipulated the princess, that was pretty great!

That ending, yeah, that was kinda expected to happen, what with her devotion to the dude. And so the princess gets her just deserts, and yeah, I really enjoyed that ending! Just proves that pretty everybody can have a happy ending!

You guys should really check it out, it's really good!

Bio:
J.E. & M. Keep love to combine fantasy, scifi, horror, romance and mystery into exciting and titillating novels.

They are long term, loving partners in a very happy relationship and because of this, they love to torture their characters. Dark romance touches all of their stories in one way or another, from elicit trysts to forbidden love.

Some of their work contains dubious consent and erotic pain, so it’s not for the faint of heart. Their stories are often called twisted and arousing -- at the same time.
