Week 36 Reviews: Cast in Peril, Cast in Sorrow

From Goodreads:
It has been a busy few weeks for Private Kaylin Neya. In between angling for a promotion, sharing her room with the last living female Dragon and dealing with more refugees than anyone knew what to do with, the unusual egg she'd been given began to hatch. Actually, that turned out to be lucky, because it absorbed the energy from the bomb that went off in her quarters.…So now might be the perfect time to leave Elantra and journey to the West March with the Barrani. If not for the disappearances of citizens in the fief of Tiamaris—disappearances traced to the very Barrani Kaylin is about to be traveling with...

From Goodreads:
THE END OF HER JOURNEY IS ONLY THE BEGINNING...

The Barrani would be happy to see her die. So Kaylin Neya is a bit surprised by her safe arrival in the West March. Especially when enemies new and old surround her and those she would call friends are equally dangerous...

And then the real trouble starts. Kaylin's assignment is to be a "harmoniste"-one who helps tell the truth behind a Barrani Recitation. But in a land where words are more effective than weapons, Kaylin's duties are deadly. With the wrong phrase she could tear a people further asunder. And with the right ones...well, then she might be able to heal a blight on a race.

If only she understood the story....

My Review:
Oh, I loved these books! First they were really different, in that they were the first time that Kaylin left the city, travelling in Peril, and arriving and dealing with the reason why she left in the first place, in Sorrow. Second, well, because they're about Kaylin, Severn, and in this great, wonderful world that is so rich and detailed and magical and hard, and about life, and living, for however long you can, and living a good life, or trying, what with some people just being criminals and all.

I loved how the egg from Chaos, hatched in Peril, and yeah, that was pretty awesome!!! And how it kept bitting her ear, or melt Severn's blade, or bit the tree? It was pretty darn hilarious, and that it could attack and kill the Not-Feral, with just some smoke that it breaths? Yeah, pretty darn interesting!

I loved the H buildings, and their role, and how they had to wake up, and their different personalities, and how the stolen people from the fief and one child from the Empire, played in, even if I don't quite understand quite happened, they were told stories in True Words, but told lies, and that they would corrupt the H buildings? I think that's what happened.

And the ending of Peril, in the POV of the Consort, well, yeah, that was interesting, that she'd forgive Kaylin in they survived the telling that they came to witness and all, that Kaylin would play an important role in. Or that one of the times the H building had Kaylin room with the Consort that was pretty great!

And once they actually got there, the Nightmares/Dreams of the H building there, and how she had to rescue the Consort twice, and enter the Green twice, and I don't know why Severn's blades were so important to him, I don't know which ones, the one's attached to the chain usually wrapped around his waist, or just separate blades?

We got to learn a lot about Teela, and her past, over these 2 books, and deal with it, to fix the mistake that the Barrani made when they had their children listen to the telling. And her mini dragon played a part in fixing things, eating the words that Kaylin didn't need, and how she fixed the story, and brought them back to life, the 10 that wanted it. And yeah, it was just really great!

I really enjoyed these books, can't wait to read Flame, and I hope she's going to meet the Emperor soon, because that's going to be so good!!!
