Week 47 Review: The Madman's Daughter

From Goodreads:
In the darkest places, even love is deadly.

Sixteen-year-old Juliet Moreau has built a life for herself in London—working as a maid, attending church on Sundays, and trying not to think about the scandal that ruined her life. After all, no one ever proved the rumors about her father's gruesome experiments. But when she learns he is alive and continuing his work on a remote tropical island, she is determined to find out if the accusations are true.

Accompanied by her father's handsome young assistant, Montgomery, and an enigmatic castaway, Edward—both of whom she is deeply drawn to—Juliet travels to the island, only to discover the depths of her father's madness: He has experimented on animals so that they resemble, speak, and behave as humans. And worse, one of the creatures has turned violent and is killing the island's inhabitants. Torn between horror and scientific curiosity, Juliet knows she must end her father's dangerous experiments and escape her jungle prison before it's too late. Yet as the island falls into chaos, she discovers the extent of her father's genius—and madness—in her own blood.

My Review:
This was such a creepy book! I mean, I haven't read the book that it was loosely based on, I believe it's called the Island of Dr. Moreau, but from the title, it's pretty easy to see dark, I mean, madman? That's not a light topic of conversation or book!

This book was a bit confusing. A bit bad and forth, and since I had to read it in snatches, hard to remember and collect all the bits and pieces that Juliet was getting. So that, unfortunately, lowered it in my opinion, but since there was a lot of good things, that lowering didn't amount to much in the end!

The whole thing that pushed Juliet away from being the maid, and away from London, was just awful. But it seems like that was the norm, and that it could've and probably did, happen in real life, just sucks!

I loved how the mystery of what was going on, and what her dad was doing, was connected to the shots that Juliet has to take, or she dies. Because that is important! And how it's solved, well, violent, but fire is one of the ultimate cleaners.

I enjoyed this book a ton, and then with the ending of Montgomery pushing the boat away with only Juliet in it, yeah, I need to read the next book!
