Week 1 Review: The Ruining

From Goodreads:
Annie Phillips is thrilled to leave her past behind and begin a shiny new life on Belvedere Island, as a nanny for the picture-perfect Cohen family. In no time at all, she falls in love with the Cohens, especially with Libby, the beautiful young matriarch of the family. Life is better than she ever imagined. She even finds romance with the boy next door.

All too soon cracks appear in Annie's seemingly perfect world. She's blamed for mistakes she doesn't remember making. Her bedroom door comes unhinged, and she feels like she's always being watched. Libby, who once felt like a big sister, is suddenly cold and unforgiving. As she struggles to keep up with the demands of her new life, Annie's fear gives way to frightening hallucinations. Is she tumbling into madness, or is something sinister at play?

"The Ruining" is a complex ride through first love, chilling manipulation, and the terrifying depths of insanity.

My Review:
Oh, I absolutely loved this book! It was just so creepy! I mean,  she reads a book with the yellow room with a character, and then her room is painted yellow, and there's problems with Libby, from the hours that she has, the neighbourhood boy that she may be falling love with, except that she almost dies from allergies that she was sure she told Libby about, while on a date with him, to the fact that she child that she's to be the Nanny had nightmares and her "parents" didn't come to comfort her.

You know the saying, if something's too good to be true, it probably isn't? That's basically the premise for this book, a college girl needing money and a good job to get out of the hole, and getting this job as a nanny for a family that seems pretty perfect.

But things start going wrong, from the instances where Annie things that Libby calls her Nanny, and yeah, it was just really creepy, because Libby would deny it, but we knew it to be true, because that was what was written on the page.

Then there was a slight mystery to this book, because there's the reactions to the papers that fell in the garage, and how it appeared that Annie was snooping in their stuff when she was just getting out the bike, and how it turned out that Libby was actually the 2nd wife, and the child's mother, died.

Yeah, I really loved this book, creepy to the extreme, but really good! And a pretty good ending too, that Libby goes to jail, and Annie starts to recover her sanity from the  psychological? warfare that Libby put on her!

Loved it, and can't wait to see what Anna Collomore writes next!
