Week 29 Reviews: Turned at Dark, Born at Midnight

From Goodreads:
Independent and strong-willed Della Tsang did not believe in ghosts, until she sees her dead cousin in a dark alley. She did not believe in vampires, until she turns into one. Should she follow her vampire cousin’s lead and walk away from everything she knows, or join Shadow Falls, a camp for special teens.

From Goodreads:
Don't miss this spectacular new series that will steal your heart and haunt your dreams, Welcome to Shadow Falls camp, nestled deep in the woods of a town called Fallen…

One night Kylie Galen finds herself at the wrong party, with the wrong people, and it changes her life forever. Her mother ships her off to Shadow Falls—a camp for troubled teens, and within hours of arriving, it becomes painfully clear that her fellow campers aren't just "troubled." Here at Shadow Falls, vampires, werewolves, shapshifters, witches and fairies train side by side—learning to harness their powers, control their magic and live in the normal world.

Kylie's never felt normal, but surely she doesn't belong here with a bunch of paranormal freaks either. Or does she? They insist Kylie is one of them, and that she was brought here for a reason. As if life wasn't complicated enough, enter Derek and Lucas. Derek's a half-fae who's determined to be her boyfriend, and Lucas is a smokin' hot werewolf with whom Kylie shares a secret past. Both Derek and Lucas couldn't be more different, but they both have a powerful hold on her heart.

Even though Kylie feels deeply uncertain about everything, one thing is becoming painfully clear—Shadow Falls is exactly where she belongs…

My first review of Born at Midnight
My Review:
Oh, I really enjoyed reading these books! Because I didn't have a copy of Turned at Dark the first time I read Born of Midnight, I was deprived of having the full story, but I had it this time, and oh, it was just great to read Della's transformation into a vampire, and what led her to Shadow Falls!

So yeah, we got to be around her cousin a bit longer then his brief, and pretty damning visit in Born at Midnight, which was really great, because he was't such a bad guy then, especially as he was helped Della out with being sick in the transformation. He just didn't care too much about what she wanted.

And then Born at Midnight. I'd pretty much forgotten about what happened in this book, beyond a lot of boy stress, and how one ghost would be introduced pretty much as she helped the last one, I'd forgotten about how Kylie checked out Perry's genitals when she thought he was just a cat, the lion left in her room, things like that.

I hadn't forgotten about Holiday and Burnett, but this is before they work out their starting issues with each other, when it was really just him liking her, and her pretty much hating his guts because she thought that he was opposed to the camp, when really, he was one of it's biggest supporters.

I had forgotten about her friend, and how she thought she was pregnant, but I know a bit of what's going to happen next, and I believe the real reason for the missed period. Also, how her adoptive dad cheated on her mom, and brought his secretary/woman he's sleeping with, to town when he visited Kylie.

Yeah, this was a fantastic book, I can't wait to reread the rest of the series, then read Reborn!
