Week 38 Review: Black Ice

From Goodreads:
Sometimes danger is hard to see... until it’s too late.

Britt Pfeiffer has trained to backpack the Teton Range, but she isn't prepared when her ex-boyfriend, who still haunts her every thought, wants to join her. Before Britt can explore her feelings for Calvin, an unexpected blizzard forces her to seek shelter in a remote cabin, accepting the hospitality of its two very handsome occupants—but these men are fugitives, and they take her hostage.

In exchange for her life, Britt agrees to guide the men off the mountain. As they set off, Britt knows she must stay alive long enough for Calvin to find her. The task is made even more complicated when Britt finds chilling evidence of a series of murders that have taken place there... and in uncovering this, she may become the killer’s next target.

But nothing is as it seems in the mountains, and everyone is keeping secrets, including Mason, one of her kidnappers. His kindness is confusing Britt. Is he an enemy? Or an ally?

BLACK ICE is New York Times bestselling author Becca Fitzpatrick’s riveting romantic thriller set against the treacherous backdrop of the mountains of Wyoming. Falling in love should never be this dangerous…

My Review:
I loved this book! Almost immediately, you find out who the bad guys are...or are they? Or are things more complicated then they seem, people with hidden agendas, or people who, while violent, maybe aren't the real enemy they're facing? Yeah.

"Mr. Versteeg never let us wear shoes inside the house. I doubted he cared about the tent getting dirty, but by now it was habit: No shoes inside." This isn't a thing everywhere? It's polite to take off your shoes when you enter a house, why is this something that someone has to enforce? Well, there were the american tenants at the one house we did, so I guess shoes off is an Canadian thing.

One thing that I'd have liked to see, would be a confrontation between the Versteeg family, especially Korbie, because as Britt describes them, they were more sisters then best friends, and yeah, what happened was a bit thing for the both of them, and I wanted that, the air things out, but if it happened, we didn't get to see it!

I could almost feel sorry for him, but for the fact that he's a murderer, and he only killed them for a really pointless reason, all because his life kinda sucked. Only kinda, and almost, because killing people is the wrong thing to do! Bad, bad, bad!

Favourite lines: "Screw him. Screw him and have fun." That's a pretty good motto! "It's down pouring, we have no cell phone service, and we're in the middle of the mountains. Don't panic. Sure." Yeah, not the best of situations, but panicking would make it worse! "Actually, I can't think of anything better than waiting out this storm in the company of two attractive girls." Sounds like a compliment! "Swap James McAvoy for Christian Bale, and you could pretty much go into business as a psychic." Yeah, this group of girls have a new leading comic guy! "I don't know what to do with all this flattery." Because it's not, go flirting/teasing! "He seems quite enamoured with my bowl. he's cradling it almost affectionately in his hands. Let him play out his romantic fantasy a couple more minutes." Yes, love the bowl! "If kidnapping and abduction don't pan out for you, I'm sure you could give psychic reading a try!" Different guy, but yeah, she seems to like the psychic idea a lot! "Everyone needs a blizzard now and then, a life-and-death adventure, you know?" Well, I'd hope not! "Then I won't be fine." And that would be bad! "I wasn't a seafood girl, especially not a slimy seafood girl." Me, either! Gross! "We should kiss again and see what other observations I make." Yeah, great idea! "And if that's how you kiss when you're drunk, I can't wait to see what you kiss like when your mind is fully present." It might be earth-shattering! "Korbie's been getting away with .murder her whole life." Well, not really. Just you, and now your luck has run out! "I'll sit on the beach and watch you drown from the safety of my towel." Which is the smart move! "We are hunting for sea snails, which may or may not be code for something else." It kinda is, it kinda isn't! "But if he broke your heart, I will rip out his soul and feed it to my family's pet pig, Big Ol' Pig." Interesting threat! "I have a brilliant idea. Let's take a walk on the beach and talk about stupid, meaningless things." You're oh, so very smart for listening to what she wants! "Your head will grow so big, we'll have to roll it down the beach." That is certainly something you don't see every day!

Yeah, this was a really awesome book, a great mystery, with layers and layers, and it was interesting and intense, and I really enjoyed it!
