Week 39 Reviews: The Memory Coder, Undiscovered, Unremembered

From Goodreads:
When a security breach is detected, the Memory Restoration Department is called upon to do what they do best: make you forget. But with every memory that's taken out, a new one must be installed in its place. It's a job that requires skill, artistry, discretion, and flawless proficiency in the language of memories. That's why only the best programmers in the world are recruited to work for the department. But diving too far into another person's memories is a dangerous endeavor. And for some, the temptation is just too strong.

From Goodreads:

Before the crash of Freedom Airlines flight 121...

There was a top-secret research compound hidden deep in the desert.

There was a girl held prisoner in a restricted sector.

And there was a boy who found her. And risked everything to set her free.

Romantic and action-packed, Undiscovered is sure to thrill fans of Jessica Brody's Unremembered trilogy. In this 100-page novella, told from Zen's point of view, more secrets are revealed about Seraphina's forgotten past, the corporation that created her, and the boy who fell in love with her. Undiscovered also includes a sneak peek of Unforgotten, the anticipated second book in the trilogy.

From Goodreads:
When Freedom Airlines flight 121 went down over the Pacific Ocean, no one ever expected to find survivors. Which is why the sixteen-year-old girl discovered floating among the wreckage—alive—is making headlines across the globe.

Even more strange is that her body is miraculously unharmed and she has no memories of boarding the plane. She has no memories of her life before the crash. She has no memories period. No one knows how she survived. No one knows why she wasn't on the passenger manifest. And no one can explain why her DNA and fingerprints can't be found in a single database in the world.

Crippled by a world she doesn't know, plagued by abilities she doesn't understand, and haunted by a looming threat she can't remember, Seraphina struggles to piece together her forgotten past and discover who she really is. But with every clue only comes more questions. And she's running out of time to answer them.

Her only hope is a strangely alluring boy who claims to know her from before the crash. Who claims they were in love. But can she really trust him? And will he be able to protect her from the people who have been making her forget?

From popular young adult author Jessica Brody comes a compelling and suspenseful new sci-fi series, set in a world where science knows no boundaries, memories are manipulated, and true love can never be forgotten.

My Review:
I don't know what took me so long to read Unremembered! I mean, I got it as an ARC, and I still didn't read it until well after the 2nd book has come out, and the 3rd and final comes out in just a few months. So I guess that means less impatiently waiting, which is good, but yeah, I means that I missed out on a good story for a good long while!

I really enjoyed Memory Coder, that it starts with a guy getting obsessed with a pretty girl, and then the guy who takes out and codes in new ones into the first guy's memory gets obsessed with the pretty girl he sees in the memories, and then when his memory is taken out by another memory coder, the 2nd MC seems to be started on the path of obsession with the pretty girl!

Undiscovered, it answers a lot of the questions that Unremembered raises, not all, but a lot of them, and yeah, that was just awesome, seeing how their lives were like before they came back in time, and how they came up with the plan, after the first 2 failed. So yeah, that was great!

I really enjoyed her foster family, though they did react a bit badly, the mom when presented with some evidence of who Sera really was, her strenth, the son, Cody, who was hilarious, when he eavesdrops on the conversation between Sera and Dr. Maxxer. Which sucks, because he was an awesome character!

Favourite lines from Undiscovered: "'No,' I said with a straight face, turning to wink at the kids. 'I'm poisoning their minds with the truth." Which would make said authority figure he's talking to, mad, which kinda isn't a good idea! "School. An institution for educating children. A large group of fish or sea mammals." That they share the same word? That's a bit funny!

Favourite lines from Unremembered: "Filling my mouth with the taste of salty solitude." That's strange! "I know that the female newscaster standing on the kerb at Los Angeles International Airport blinks fifteen times per minute. Expect when she's responding to a question from the male newscaster back in the studio. Then her blinks increase by 133 per cent." Three guesses why that happens! "If they're smarter than you, aren't you afraid they'll eventually destroy you?" Machines have logic, we should be afraid if that logic says that humans aren't needed! "Summer camp. Taking shelter in tents for the summer?" I suddenly see how hard it would be to know basic definitions, but not social framing for them! "My mother thinks I'm cool. I'm sure the freshman chicks are going to fall all over themselves." I can just see the dripping sarcasm! "Credit card. Credit: Commendation or honour given for some action. Card: a rectangular piece of stiff paper." Well, I'm pretty sure credit has another definition, but this is pretty hilarious! "Should we go find that lost mind of yours?" Love this, too funny! "You mean a male lover?" Yeah, that's the extreme form of a boyfriend, and in very plain terms, though not all boyfriends become male lovers! "The plane crashed and, at the exact same time, you magically just...fell from the sky! You're a fallen angel, that's it. Why didn't I think of it before? That would certainly explain the face." And the no memory, except for definitions of stuff, and understanding and speaking a lot of languages, though we only experienced Portuguese and Russian. Yeah, fallen angel is a perfectly valid explanation! "'You're not going to ask me to take you to Guam or something.' 'No.' I pause, considering. 'Unless the Internet is better there.'" And she's not joking! Love the fact that she doesn't really know anything about the Internet! "I doubt anyone in the history of the world has ever gotten this excited about a plant, but I don't care." And why should you, plants provide the oxygen we need to breathe! "What can I say. I was curious. You put a giant concrete wall in front of a guy, he's gonna try to find out what's on the other side." True, that! "Apparently alcohol is a very strong deactivator." Yeah, seems like it!

Yeah, this was a really great opener to the series, and while Undiscovered gives us most of the answers that Sera was looking for, there were still a few questions, which makes it come together really well! I really enjoyed them, and I can't wait to read more of the series!
