Week 46 Review: The Scent of Shadows

From Goodreads:
When she was sixteen, Joanna Archer was brutally assaulted and left to die in the Nevada desert.

By rights, she should be dead.

Now a photographer by day, she prowls a different Las Vegas after sunset—a grim, secret Sin City where Light battles Shadow—seeking answers to whom or what she really is . . . and revenge for the horrors she was forced to endure.

But the nightmare is just beginning—for the demons are hunting Joanna, and the powerful shadows want her for their own . . .

My Review:
Wow, I really enjoyed this book! So great, so original, so refreshing, in a light and dark sort of way, with the 2 different groups of Zodiac! And the facts of Joanna's existence, well, they're not exactly what she wants, but they're what she has, no matter how much trouble they get her into!

Because she's born of both the Light and Shadow, and has abilities of both-and she has free choice on which side she wants to be on. Which is complicated by the fact that she's been killed a few times, because she didn't survive that time in the Nevada desert at 16. And yeah, lots of possible deaths!

There were some elements of romance in this book, from the very creepy and horrible Ajax, who starts the book off with a date with her, where he ends up saying that he's going to kill her. And there's her old sweetheart, and a few others. It was a pretty complicated book!

There were a few issues with the book, like I didn't like how the good guys would force her to get plastic surgery so she could look like her dead sister-impersonate said sister-to spy on their dad. And that she gets power from her parents on their birthdays, which also turn out to be her's. And that the good guys tell her to do stuff, she doesn't want to, but does it anyways. I wish she could've chosen to do what she thought was best, not what they thought!

Yeah, even if I had some issues with this book, it was really great, and I really enjoyed it, and I can't wait for more!
