Week 3 Reviews: Beautiful Darkness, Dream Dark

From Goodreads:
Ethan Wate used to think of Gatlin, the small Southern town he had always called home, as a place where nothing ever changed. Then he met mysterious newcomer Lena Duchannes, who revealed a secret world that had been hidden in plain sight all along. A Gatlin that harbored ancient secrets beneath its moss-covered oaks and cracked sidewalks. A Gatlin where a curse has marked Lena's family of powerful Supernaturals for generations. A Gatlin where impossible, magical, life-altering events happen.

Sometimes life-ending.
Together they can face anything Gatlin throws at them, but after suffering a tragic loss, Lena starts to pull away, keeping secrets that test their relationship. And now that Ethan's eyes have been opened to the darker side of Gatlin, there's no going back. Haunted by strange visions only he can see, Ethan is pulled deeper into his town's tangled history and finds himself caught up in the dangerous network of underground passageways endlessly crisscrossing the South, where nothing is as it seems.

When Link joined his best friend, Ethan Wate, on a quest through a mysterious network of underground passageways endlessly crisscrossing the South, he knew the journey would be dangerous. But returning home to Gatlin, South Carolina was just the beginning...

Wounded during a climactic battle, Link discovers that tending his injuries won't be as simple as visiting a doctor and that healing his arm should be the least of his worries. For being bitten by a Supernatural does more than break the skin -- it changes a person, inside and out, turning Link into someone more and more like the dark creature who injured him.

My first review of Beautiful Darkness
My Review:
It was just a joy to be able to reread Beautiful Darkness! Mostly because I forgot most of it, because I thought that Link left them-which is why I originally thought that Dream Dark happened during Beautiful Darkness. But nope, it's set sometime after "Hell Night" and yeah, once that was in my head, things just went quickly!

So we learn so much in this book, like that Ethan's mom was the love of Macon's life, stuff
about arclights, casters, and how Abraham saved Ravenswood from the burning and why, that he's still alive, and that Ethan's aunt Prue has been exploring the tunnels, and that her family has done that going way back. Some things were good, some were bad, and some were just weird!
I know the 3 ladies had a good reason to let the group go on. And they had a good reason for how they got there, how they found the place. But still, they just let them go! It just seems weird! And then add in the whole Macon was put in an arclight by Ethan's mom, just, yeah.

The ending, with Lena choosing both Light and Dark, I remembered that, and I know a good deal of what's going to happen next, and the events of these books really give strong roots for the next 2 books that built on the roots of the first book. Though really, the 4th book almost seems apart!

I enjoyed rereading Beautiful Darkness, and Dream Dark was just funny, with Link, and then that ending!
