Week 23 Review: Ghost House

From Goodreads:
From the New York Times bestselling author of Halo comes the start of a beautiful and powerful new series.

After the loss of her mother, Chloe Kennedy starts seeing the ghosts that haunted her as a young girl again. Spending time at her grandmother's country estate in the south of England is her chance to get away from her grief and the spirits that haunt her. Until she meets a mysterious stranger…

Alexander Reade is 157 years dead, with secrets darker than the lake surrounding Grange Hall and a lifelike presence that draws Chloe more strongly than any ghost before. But the bond between them awakens the vengeful spirit of Alexander's past love, Isobel. And she will stop at nothing to destroy anyone who threatens to take him from her.

To stop Isobel, Chloe must push her developing abilities to their most dangerous limits, even if it means losing Alex forever… and giving the hungry dead a chance to claim her for their own.

My Review:
I had a really great time reading this book! The pages just flew, half because I wanted to read a lot this week, and was in a bit of a time crunch because we had a showing the day that I was reading it, and half because this book was just so darned entertaining!

I did enjoy reading about Chloe and her journey. Her voice was just a little bit strange, outdated, and some strange word choices, but part of that could be because of the whole seeing ghosts thing. But I did enjoy reading about her!

One of the best parts for me, was seeing Alexander and Isobel's past, leading up to their deaths. That was really interesting, and if Isobel hadn't made such bad decisions, then you'd feel sorry for her. Something else that was really great for me, was the ghost hunting sisters! They were so cute and fun, though I just kinda lumped them together as one person, it was a bit too hard to keep them separate!

And then there was that ending! Closing the ghosts out of her mind, and out dimension, that was hard. And going back home for school. And then having Alexander a new student there, seeing him, but not knowing he was real? Just being told he was there, and having the book ending? Oh, boy, that was a really great ending! Now I just need more!

Favourite lines: "When I came downstairs I found Gran and Rory donning coats and scarves as if they were preparing for battle rather than going outside to see the stable." Battle the weather! Charge! "'What’s a G-spot?' I walked over to him and calmly took away the copy of Cosmopolitan that had him so engrossed." Yeah, as a gentleman 150 year old ghost, there are things like that that he doesn't know about! "My knowledge of time travel came from Harry Potter and I was pretty sure didn't have a time turner." Well, you do see ghosts! So that could have something to do with it! "Rule Number One, Joe. You don't actively go looking for trouble." Yeah, you kinda run away from it! "'You don't remember anything? Joe, a chandelier fell on you.' 'Really? Cool.'" Uh, not really, silly guy! "His name is Joe. He's related to the Duke of Canterbury It's going to be a summer wedding and of course the Queen will be invited." I love how she played with them like that!

This was a really excellent start to this series, and I can't wait to read more!
