Week 29 Review: The Ghost of Ben Hargrove

From Goodreads:
In this standalone short story from New York Times bestselling author Heather Brewer, a boy wakes up in a cell with no recollection of how he got there—and no idea how he is going to escape.

Ben Hargrove has been trapped for so long, he's lost count of the days. In a cell with no windows and only a small slot in the door, he doesn't even know when it's day and when it's night. All Ben knows is the hand that brings him food and medicine. All Ben knows is the cycle from one sleep to the next.

But this cycle, something is different. Someone has left Ben a note:
There is no freedom.
There are no walls.
The boy is real.

Ben will have to figure out what the cryptic note means, and fast—or he may not make it out of this cell alive.

Featuring a first look at Heather Brewer's upcoming novel, The Cemetery Boys, this mysterious and frightening short story will keep you guessing until the very last page—and it will keep you awake long after.

My Review:
So reading this book, it was really great! It was so creepy, but it was so sad, too, once you get to the ending! I enjoyed it so much, it was a really fantastic short story! And by short, I mean on my Nook, it was about 19 pages. Yeah.

I loved the creepiness of the book, because when you find out what was happening, it makes sense, but put into a different light. Because Ben isn't a reliable narrator. But then we were getting scenes of his life, that he was apparently only picking up the slightest details from, unlike us.

Then there was his brother, and the teddy bear. That was both creepy, and sad. Because Ben was driving when John died. And then the ghost, or something, of John is coming back, and it's all creepy I wanted to know more!

And then we find out, that he's in a mental hospital. And that he can't have utensils, because he's violent. And it's just so sad, because if he'd take the pills, then he might get better. But he thinks he's in a prison, and yeah, it's just a sad position!

Such a great story, creepy, and amazing, and I just enjoyed it so much!
