Week 7 Review: Brotherhood in Death

From Goodreads:
Sometimes brotherhood can be another word for conspiracy...

Dennis Mira just had two unpleasant surprises. First he learned that his cousin Edward was secretly meeting with a real estate agent about their late grandfather's magnificent West Village brownstone, despite the promise they both made to keep it in the family. Then, when he went to the house to confront Edward about it, he got a blunt object to the back of the head.

Luckily Dennis is married to Charlotte Mira, the NYPSD's top profiler and a good friend of Lieutenant Eve Dallas. When the two arrive on the scene, he explains that the last thing he saw was Edward in a chair, bruised and bloody. When he came to, his cousin was gone. With the mess cleaned up and the security disks removed, there's nothing left behind but a few traces for forensics to analyze.

As a former lawyer, judge, and senator, Edward Mira mingled with the elite and crossed paths with criminals, making enemies on a regular basis. Like so many politicians, he also made some very close friends behind closed—and locked—doors. But a badge and a billionaire husband can get you into places others can't go, and Eve intends to shine some light on the dirty deals and dark motives behind the disappearance of a powerful man, the family discord over a multimillion-dollar piece of real estate . . . and a new case that no one saw coming.

My Review:
Yeah, another fantastic instalment in this series that is just so freaking good! I do wish I'd been able to read the short story in Down the Rabbit Hole, but oh, well. I can always read it later, if out of order! I don't think the mysteries are going to be connected!

This is the book that we get to know Dennis Mira. Like the fact that his cousin is/was former senator Edward Mira. We-and most everybody in the books-didn't know that. We also got to learn a bit of what it was like for him and his fellow classmates during the beginnings of the Urban Wars.

As always, the mystery was deep and complex, with lots of twists and turns! It was funny, Edward Mira's wife, she was horrible, she didn't think anything of him being missing, and didn't initially believe Eve when informed of his death. How two kids could've come from such rotten parents, it's hard to know. But the opposite is true, too, unfortunately!

In the end, finding out why the bad guys were bad guys, was pretty horrible, that the killers in this book were also the victims, and the victims were all in all pretty horrible predators, preying on women because they were "successful" that this ritual made them "lucky." Just horrible!

If only the ladies had gone to the cops, then all true bad guys would've spend the rest of their lives in prison. Which would be more last punishment for their crimes then their time of torture, and then death. It's like, the average human being should know what are crimes, what qualifies, and the more complex laws were easy to understand, then this might not have played out like it did. Gah, too little, too late for that now!

Just so fantastic to read this book, and I can't wait for the next one!
