Week 21 Review: Change Places With Me

From Goodreads:
From Lois Metzger, acclaimed author of A Trick of the Light, comes a work of speculative fiction set in the near future about a teen girl who finds a new, mysterious perspective on her life.

Rose has changed. She still lives in the same neighborhood with her stepmother and goes to the same high school with the same group of kids, but when she woke up today, something was just a little different than it was before. The dogs who live upstairs are no longer a terror. Her hair and her clothes all feel brand-new. She wants to throw a party—this from a girl who hardly ever spoke to her classmates before. There is no more sadness in her life; she is bursting with happiness.

But something still feels wrong to Rose. Because, until very recently, Rose was an entirely different person—a person who is still there inside her, just beneath the thinnest layer of skin.

A bold and original work of speculative fiction set in a familiar future, Lois Metzger's latest novel is a profoundly authentic and heartbreaking tale of the things we keep locked away inside us, even from ourselves.

My Review:
This book was strange and awesome! I loved this world, just a little further ahead then our own, with some pretty important developments! It wasn't all that different from our world, but just some little details-and some larger ones, later on-that separate us, which is a good kind of scary!

I absolutely loved the way this book was told. We had the story of Rose, happy and living life, until things come to a head with the person she used to be. And then we got the story of who she used to be, to the point where she became Rose. And finally, who she became after being both those people! It was middle, beginning, end, and that was different and wonderful to read!

The contrast between the happy Rose, and the sad girl was a bit of a shock. Because both were the extremes, without much other feeling. And that's not normal. And I think all that is what the synopsis is talking about, the things that we keep locked away from ourselves. Yeah.

This wasn't a retelling of Snow White. A, because a retelling doesn't know about the original, because that would be kinda weird. And B, there wasn't a bad relationship between Rose and her stepmom, it just wasn't the best, and they both worked on it as the book went on!

Change Places With Me was a strange and wonderful book and I enjoyed it, and I hope you guys do too!
