Week 34 Reviews: Day Zero, Arcana Rising

From Goodreads:
Arcana means secrets, and these Arcana Chronicles vignettes from #1 New York Times bestseller Kresley Cole are filled with them. Experience firsthand the beginning of the end and behold the apocalypse through the eyes of characters you only thought you knew.

Ashes to ashes . . .
Evie Greene's story of the Flash is just one of many. All over the world, those connected in some way to the lethal Arcana game--like Death, Jack, and Fortune--must first survive a horrifying night of blood and screams.

We all fall down.
Some will have to grapple with new powers; all will be damned to a hellish new existence of plague, brutality, desolation, and cannibalism. Find out who they lost, why they endure, and what they sacrificed in order to live past Day Zero. . .

From Goodreads:
Losses mount and deadly new threats converge in this fourth action-packed tale of the Arcana Chronicles by #1 New York Times bestseller Kresley Cole.

When the battle is done . . .
The Emperor unleashed hell and annihilated an army, jeopardizing the future of mankind--but Circe struck back. The epic clash between them devastates the Arcana world and nearly kills Evie, separating her from her allies.

And all hope is lost . . .
With Aric missing and no sign that Jack and Selena escaped Richter's reach, Evie turns more and more to the darkness lurking inside her. Two Arcana emerge as game changers: one who could be her salvation, the other her worst nightmare.

Vengeance becomes everything.

To take on Richter, Evie must reunite with Death and mend their broken bond. But as she learns more about her role in the future--and her chilling past--will she become a monster like the Emperor? Or can Evie and her allies rise up from Richter's ashes, stronger than ever before?

My Review:
Reading these books so much! After the cliffhanger ending of Dead of Winter-and the long, long wait for these two books, yeah, I just devoured these books! They were so freaking fantastic, and I loved reading them!

Day Zero was really great in that it gave us the Arcana information of all the Majors, besides one, and then the stories of various character's day zeroes. And that was really awesome, because it was characters we've never met, and some that we never will. So yeah, that was really awesome!

Arcana Rising started right after Dead of Winter ending, and yeah, a lot of things happened. Like Evie losing an arm, tying off her grief by being single minded on getting back to Tess and making sure things never happened. Yeah.

Loved meeting the new Arcana, however briefly. With having the Sun, Temperance and Emperor's Day Zero stories (and Richter was pretty darned awful!) that just added so much to these books! I can't wait to watch Evie and her gang annihilate him!

There was also mentioned the Minor Arcana. What with Evie's plan to stop playing after Richter was gone, and the Minor Arcana wanting to have the game over, so they could bring the world back again, I can see potential conflict there!

Evie finally got to reunite with her Gran, something she's wanted to do for the whole series, so that was great! But it also meant dealing with her Gran wanting her to win the game, and reading her history, of the betrayals and backstabbing of previous books-like the Fool, in the first game, was her ally-and then he killed her, and he won the game. Yeah.

Oh, and I can't forget to mention-Evie and Aric and Jack! It hurt to watch Evie agonize over this, and the fact that she doesn't know that Jack was alive, well, yeah. With the information that she had, I'm glad she went where she did! But that ending oh, and the implications! Both the pregnancy and the shenanigans that her memory was playing on her-does this have something to do with her Gran's ramblings? I wants to know!

Yeah that The Dark Calling is coming out soon, because I desperately want to read it!
