Week 13 Review: The Education of Margot Sanchez

From Goodreads:
Pretty in Pink comes to the South Bronx in this bold and romantic coming-of-age novel about dysfunctional families, good and bad choices, and finding the courage to question everything you ever thought you wanted—from debut author Lilliam Rivera.

THINGS/PEOPLE MARGOT HATES:

Mami, for destroying my social life
Papi, for allowing Junior to become a Neanderthal
Junior, for becoming a Neanderthal
This supermarket
Everyone else

After "borrowing" her father's credit card to finance a more stylish wardrobe, Margot
Sanchez suddenly finds herself grounded. And by grounded, she means working as an indentured servant in her family's struggling grocery store to pay off her debts.

With each order of deli meat she slices, Margot can feel her carefully cultivated prep school reputation slipping through her fingers, and she's willing to do anything to get out of this punishment. Lie, cheat, and maybe even steal…

Margot's invitation to the ultimate beach party is within reach and she has no intention of letting her family's drama or Moises—the admittedly good looking but outspoken boy from the neighborhood—keep her from her goal.

My Review:
This book was a lot of fun to read! Though it was a bit slow getting into it, given that she'd made some wrong choices, and hadn't learned from them yet! But she did, and became a better person throughout the course of this book!

Margot's life is a bit of a mess. She used her dad's credit card to buy a wardrobe to fit into the popular crowd at school. She's caught, and has to work at the family grocery store that isn't doing so well. Her brother is pretty awful, and she blames her dad. Which is a bit unfair, but hey, teenagers!

I really liked Moises, I think he was the best character in the whole book, because a) boy b) teenager c) is in a much better place than Margot. He was just a fantastic character, and I loved the relationship that she built with him in this book!

In the end, Margot has grown up, and is much more likable! And I was really happy that she made that journey! She grew into a better person, and improved her life, and started to make better decisions! What's not to like?

Fantastic book, and I really, really enjoyed reading it!
