Week 24 Review: The Darkest Promise

From Goodreads:
New York Times bestselling author Gena Showalter returns with a sizzling Lords of the Underworld story about an iron-willed sovereign and the somber beauty who melts him with a glance

Possessed by the demon of Misery, Cameo isn't allowed to experience joy. If she dares, her memory is wiped clean. With no other recourse, she sneaks into a land more fantastical than any fairy tale, determined to find the one man with the key to her redemption.

Lazarus the Cruel and Unusual rules his kingdom with a single unwavering focus: to build his army and annihilate his enemies. Nothing distracts him - until Cameo. He is relentless in his quest to make her smile and seduce her into his bed.

As dark forces conspire against them, threatening to destroy the fragile bond they've forged, the once-calm Lazarus grows crazed. Every heart-stopping kiss and wicked touch causes Cameo to teeter on the brink of happiness. But if she falls, she risks forgetting him forever

My Review:
Reading this book was just absolutely wonderful! Cameo and Lazarus were amazing together, as they struggled on whether or not to be together! And while it did mostly focus on them, we did get another POV here and there, mostly Viola, and a new character who had some interesting insights!

As always for Gena Showalter's writing, and this series in particular, this book was incredible! Cameo's book was something I was looking forward to, given that she's the only Lord. Well, technically Lady, but yeah, this book totally delivered!

In this book, we learn more about the origins of the demons, as in, how they ended up in the box. Because there was a gap between when they were kept in hell, and when they ended up in the box. So that was pretty interesting! And it's a big deal in this book, given that they only find out about it when it's almost too late!

One thing that was really interesting, was that the new character, given what she's goddess of, and her current situation, well, we learned possibilities with William. As in, if he makes different choices, he could end up with someone other than Gilly! Gah! I need more on the situation!

There was a lot of things keeping Cameo and Lazarus away from each other-that she's his obsession (not going to use the Greek word!) and being near her, he slowly turns into crystal, which happened to his dad. And as she's the keeper of Misery, well, she looses any happy memory. But there's more then meets the eye there, in both situations! And I loved how it plays out!

Things are coming to a head, with the battle between Hades and Lucifer, and with Pandora's Box, and I can't wait to see whose happiness-finding we'll read about next!
