Week 32 Review: Two Nights

From Goodreads:
#1 New York Times bestselling author Kathy Reichs steps beyond her classic Temperance Brennan series in a new standalone thriller featuring a smart, tough, talented heroine whose thirst for justice stems from her own dark past.

Meet Sunday Night, a woman with physical and psychological scars, and a killer instinct. . . .
Sunnie has spent years running from her past, burying secrets and building a life in which she needs no one and feels nothing.

But a girl has gone missing, lost in the chaos of a bomb explosion, and the family needs Sunnie's help.

Is the girl dead? Did someone take her? If she is out there, why doesn't she want to be found?

It's time for Sunnie to face her own demons because they just might lead her to the truth about what really happened all those years ago.

My Review:
Reading this book was just great! I mean, I'm trying to gear up for rereading, and reading the Temperance Brennan series, but this book, as of right now is a stand alone book, and I received an ARC of it, so much easier to read than 18+ books in a series!

Sunnie is a character very much shaped by her past. She had a pretty terrible childhood which is slowly revealed, she was arrested and had the choice of going to prison, or signing up for serving with the armed forces and had some problems there. She was a cop, but was forcibly retired with a shooting incident that almost cost her her eye. Yeah. So she's a bit hard, dark and paranoid. She's earned it!

I really enjoyed the countdown of days every couple of chapters. It wasn't clear who was narrating them, because it could've been the girl that Sunnie was looking for, but we weren't sure. I had a suspicion, and I turned out to be right!

The mystery in this book! Investigating the bombing, finding clues, and having leads given to her, and following the trail closer and closer to her targets. It was an incredible read, and seeing things come together, that was just so awesome!

I enjoyed reading this book a ton, and if it's a stand alone, or a start of a series, is fine with me, it was just that great!
