Week 34 Review: The Good Daughter

From Goodreads:
Two girls are forced into the woods at gunpoint. One runs for her life. One is left behind…

Twenty-eight years ago, Charlotte and Samantha Quinn's happy small-town family life was torn apart by a terrifying attack on their family home. It left their mother dead. It left their father — Pikeville's notorious defense attorney — devastated. And it left the family fractured beyond repair, consumed by secrets from that terrible night.

Twenty-eight years later, and Charlie has followed in her father's footsteps to become a lawyer herself — the ideal good daughter. But when violence comes to Pikeville again — and a shocking tragedy leaves the whole town traumatized — Charlie is plunged into a nightmare. Not only is she the first witness on the scene, but it's a case that unleashes the terrible memories she's spent so long trying to suppress. Because the shocking truth about the crime that destroyed her family nearly thirty years ago won't stay buried forever…

My Review:
Reading this book was so fantastic! I've really enjoyed her writing, and I just really enjoyed this book! I loved the legal mystery of it all, while also dealing with the issues of the past and their family. It was just so epic to read!

I loved the way that this story was told-having the time that broke their family from one sister's POV, and then having the present told from the other sister's POV. And then switching. It meant that we got to see both sides of the past, and see more detail in the present! So cool!

We did meet Charlie in Last Breath, and I do wish that we could've had some follow up on that besides one stray comment, I believe. But it was so great to see her again, though her life wasn't what I thought it would be! And then we find out why, and I just want to find out the timing of it all, because we got bits and pieces, some together, but my head hasn't connected it!

The legal case of a school shooting, was both parts sad, horrifying, and trying to see justice upheld, which means everybody has the right to a defense. But the perpetrator was just a kid, in mind if just a bit older. So that made things complicated, and I just wanted to read more!

This book was absolutely fantastic, such a great read, and I can't wait to read more by Karin Slaughter!
