Week 36 Review: Godsgrave

From Goodreads:
A ruthless young assassin continues her journey for revenge in this new epic fantasy from New York Times bestselling author Jay Kristoff.

Mia Corvere has found her place among the Blades of Our Lady of Blessed Murder, but many in the Red Church hierarchy think she's far from earned it. Plying her bloody trade in a backwater of the Republic, she's no closer to ending the men who destroyed her familia; in fact, she’s told directly that Consul Scaeva is off limits. But after a deadly confrontation with an old enemy, Mia suspicions about the Red Church's true motives begin to grow.

When it's announced that Scaeva will be making a rare public appearance at the conclusion of the grand games in Godsgrave, Mia defies the Church and sells herself to a gladiatorial collegium for a chance to finally end him. Upon the sands of the arena, Mia finds new allies, bitter rivals, and more questions about her strange affinity for the shadows. But as conspiracies unfold within the collegium walls, and the body count rises, Mia will be forced to choose between love and revenge, and uncover a secret that could change the very face of her world.

My Review:
I absolutely loved reading this book! We were reminded of the big mystery with the Moon, but that wasn't the focus. The focus was on getting revenge for her family. We did meet a bunch of new characters which was so awesome, what they added to the world, but there were some familiar faces, as well! Plus there was everything I loved about the first book. the narrator, the footnotes, Mister Kindly-but it was amplified in this book, like Mister Kindly's banter with Eclipse!

While Mia was training to get to that final gladiator game, there were a few thing going on. Like, meeting another darkin, who was a bit of an ass. Then there was Ash, and those complicated feelings of betrayal and lust. Because the situation wasn't as easy as it seems. Because how her dad was killed, well, lets just say the Red Church has a hand in what happened.

There was one part that was like the beginning of Nevernight, where it alternated between two scenes, where two things were happening and they were really similar, either almost the same thing was happening, or the opposite, which was really awesome! Loved seeing the differences, because this time, Mia wasn't in both of them so the one she was with was more positive, and the other was negative. It just worked really well!

That ending! Oh, wow, that was just evil! There was the big plan and the big battle and things were going smoothly-until they weren't. There was the whole her brother is alive, that her dad isn't actually her dad. And that Scaeva and the Red Church have her mentor, and tried to get Ash. Oh, and the big, big final ending, was the weird guy from the beginning of this book-was Tric! Gah! That was an bomb going off of an ending!

This was such a great book, and I need the final book now! Gah!
