Week 12 Review: Uprooted

From Goodreads:
Naomi Novik, author of the bestselling and critically acclaimed Temeraire novels, introduces a bold new world rooted in folk stories and legends, as elemental as a Grimm fairy tale.

"Our Dragon doesn't eat the girls he takes, no matter what stories they tell outside our valley. We hear them sometimes, from travelers passing through. They talk as though we were doing human sacrifice, and he were a real dragon. Of course that's not true: he may be a wizard and immortal, but he's still a man, and our fathers would band together and kill him if he wanted to eat one of us every ten years. He protects us against the Wood, and we're grateful, but not that grateful."

Agnieszka loves her valley home, her quiet village, the forests and the bright shining river. But the corrupted Wood stands on the border, full of malevolent power, and its shadow lies over her life.

Her people rely on the cold, driven wizard known only as the Dragon to keep its powers at bay. But he demands a terrible price for his help: one young woman handed over to serve him for ten years, a fate almost as terrible as falling to the Wood.

The next choosing is fast approaching, and Agnieszka is afraid. She knows — everyone knows — that the Dragon will take Kasia: beautiful, graceful, brave Kasia, all the things Agnieszka isn't, and her dearest friend in the world. And there is no way to save her.

But Agnieszka fears the wrong things. For when the Dragon comes, it is not Kasia he will choose.

My first review of Uprooted
My Review:
Gah, I absolutely loved reading this book again! And since I wasn't in pain reading it this time, I think I got more details that I missed the first time around, like that 3 eyed thing Falcon uses on Kasia. So that was great!

Ok, I think you can be able to tell my love for this book, that I read it less than a month after I read it the first time. Which is one of my more crazier ideas, but I just really needed to read a good book, and this one seemed right, you know?

One thing about this book, is that it is kinda like a few novellas all together. There's the beginning which has her being chosen by the Dragon and her training. A second one after they get back from the attack on her village, and ending with Kasia being healed. A third with the prince and getting the Queen out of the woods. A fourth while she's in the capital and the battle to defend the kids. And then the ending. Yeah. It was kinda like a tide, in and out, but also growing momentum too.

The relationship between Agnieszka and Dragon is just complex and utterly entertaining to read about! They bicker, and he totally doesn't understand and doesn't like how she does magic, that he always goes down the laid down path, while for her magic is like a forest, it grows, and she doesn't go the same way each time. They were just so great to read about!

This book is just incredible, and I loved reading it! I kinda wish we had a sequel to see more of them, but also not, because I don't want them to have conflict! Bah!
