Week 36 Review: Radio Silence

From Goodreads:
From critically acclaimed author Alice Oseman comes a smartly crafted contemporary YA novel, perfect for readers who love Rainbow Rowell's Fangirl. This is an utterly captivating and authentic new teen novel from the author of Solitaire, which VOYA said "could put her among the great young adult fiction authors."

Frances Janvier spends most of her time studying.

Everyone knows Aled Last as that quiet boy who gets straight As.

You probably think that they are going to fall in love or something. Since he is a boy and she is a girl.

They don't. They make a podcast.

In a world determined to shut them up, knock them down, and set them on a cookie cutter life path, Frances and Aled struggle to find their voices over the course of one life-changing year. Will they have the courage to show everyone who they really are? Or will they be met with radio silence?

My Review:
This book was really fantastic! Like the synopsis says, these two don't fall in love. This isn't a romance novel, at least for those two together. This was a book of creating a popular podcast, of growing up and living life, when you're part of the LGBTQ community. It was a lot of things!

Frances was your typical smarty pants rule follower. But she had a side of her that she kept hidden from the world except as anonymous art. I loved how they connected without knowing each other, virtually, and then they also connected in real life accidentally. Loved reading that!

Both Frances and Aled don't fit into your typical boxes for boys and girls, and in this book, they have to deal with that. It seems like Aled has a lot more difficulties, mostly because of his mom, but Frances has her fair share.

There's a lot of ups and downs in this book, as post secondary school comes around for Aled, and getting into those schools for Frances, as well as working on the podcast. There's fights and there's people who come to mean more than they originally did, and there's a lot of emotional scarring and healing. Such a great read!

Yeah, I really enjoyed reading this book! It was so freaking great!
