Week 38 Review: Fangirl

From Goodreads:
In Rainbow Rowell's Fangirl, Cath is a Simon Snow fan. Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan, but for Cath, being a fan is her life—and she's really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it's what got them through their mother leaving.

Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.

Cath's sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can't let go. She doesn't want to.

Now that they're going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn't want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words . . . And she can't stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone.

For Cath, the question is: Can she do this? Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind?

My Review:
This book was a lot of fun! I had read Carry On, and knowing that the main character in this book, Cath, was obsessed with Simon and Baz, yeah, I just had to read it! I really enjoyed the brief excerpts from the various Simon Snow books and Cath and sometimes Wren's fan fiction! Because Simon was a big part of Cath's life.

I could totally understand why Cath was something of a homebody. She was hurt from her mom leaving, and retreated into herself. And now that she's at college, and she's apart from her twin sister, life has changed a lot, and it's easier to stay home, not go out.

The relationships that Cath formed in college, they were almost against her will. There was her roommate Reagan, and then Reagan's boyfriend, Levi. I really enjoyed those relationships, because they were Cath coming out of her shell. There was also Nick, but he was more of a school acquaintance and I didn't like him!

Cath had to decide what was more important to her, school or finishing Carry On before the official 8th book. It was bigger than that, choosing a bit of her future, with Levi, and made for a really satisfying ending! Plus there was her confrontation with her mom, that her mom walked away from, just proved that Cath was right to not have her in her life.

This book was a lot of fun, and I'm so glad that I read it!
