Week 12 Review: All the Crooked Saints

From Goodreads:
From bestselling author Maggie Stiefvater, a gripping tale of darkness, miracles, and family. Saints. Miracles. Family. Romance. Death. Redemption.

Here is a thing everyone wants: A miracle.

Here is a thing everyone fears:
What it takes to get one.

Any visitor to Bicho Raro, Colorado is likely to find a landscape of dark saints, forbidden love, scientific dreams, miracle-mad owls, estranged affections, one or two orphans, and a sky full of watchful desert stars.

At the heart of this place you will find the Soria family, who all have the ability to perform unusual miracles. And at the heart of this family are three cousins longing to change its future: Beatriz, the girl without feelings, who wants only to be free to examine her thoughts; Daniel, the Saint of Bicho Raro, who performs miracles for everyone but himself; and Joaquin, who spends his nights running a renegade radio station under the name Diablo Diablo.

They are all looking for a miracle. But the miracles of Bicho Raro are never quite what you expect.

My Review:
I enjoyed reading this book so much! It was pretty strange with the miracles and the owls and set in the 90's, but yeah, it was really awesome to read! One thing that I loved, was that for every character, was the "here is a thing the person wants, here is a thing that they fear." It was a fantastic way to get to know even the characters who had little screen time.

There were a few things going on in this book. There was the mystery of what Daniel did to help the pilgrim, Marisita, and get his own darkness. There was the budding relationship between Beatriz and the one person in Bicho Raro who didn't come for a miracle, blocked by the fact that she doesn't have feelings. And linked to finding and helping David, was learning how to help the pilgrims, without getting cursed for it.

There was a light, airy quality to this book. Ephemeral, and slightly off-putting, and that quality was just enticing to read. We mainly focused on Beatriz and Daniel, but we saw a lot of the members of this family, they were quite close knit, given the whole miracle thing. Sure, they had their troubles, but they were family and they stuck together.

I really enjoyed the ending, though I do have one or two questions. Like, since the Soria family now know that they can do miracles on themselves, are they going to be curing Daniel's parents and uncle who were cursed, causing his premature birth?

Loved this book, it was just an enjoyable read!
