Week 24 Review: Dark Tribute

From Goodreads:
New York Times bestseller Iris Johansen is back with another high octane thriller that will leave your mind racing and your heart pounding.

Despite her tragic childhood, violin prodigy Cara Delaney has finally found peace in her career as a professional musician and stability in her relationship with her guardians, forensic sculptor Eve Duncan and ex-Navy SEAL Joe Quinn. If only Jock Gavin, Cara's lifelong friend and a man with his own twisted history, would come back into her life, everything would be perfect.

But the carefully constructed world Cara has built for herself is suddenly threatened when she is kidnapped by a mysterious man trying to settle a score against her family, setting off a violent chain of events that puts everyone Cara loves in danger. Now, Cara will have to use every instinct she has to stay one step ahead, or else she'll pay the deadly tribute of her family's dark past.

My Review:
This book was just so absolutely wonderful to read! Cara has grown up since we first met her in Shadow Place, and Jock has been a favourite since his first book, as well! So it was great to have a book with them finally getting together!

In this book, we explore a lot of her family history, and her relationship with her grandfather. Because he's the reason why this is all happening to Cara. And music is a big part of who they both are, and why this is happening.

I wonder what would've happened in Anna hadn't been such an awful person. If she hadn't had felt threatened by Kaskov and had his hands broken. If she hadn't poisoned Svardak to her way of thinking about music, would he have done what he'd done? Or would've it been channeled in a different direction?

My one thing is, that while Catherine is just slightly in this book, Venable isn't mentioned, either his death or the fact that he might be alive. Since this is the first book since Vendetta, and that Venable has been in this series, I though it could've been mentioned. Now I'll have to continue to live with the suspense!

Loved this book a ton, and I can't wait for Smokescreen!
