Week 32 Review: Let's Call it a Doomsday

From Goodreads:
There are so many ways the world could end. There could be a fire. A catastrophic flood. A super eruption that spews lakes of lava. Ellis Kimball has made note of all possible scenarios, and she is prepared for each one. What she doesn't expect is meeting Hannah Marks in her therapist's waiting room. Hannah calls their meeting fate. After all, Ellis is scared about the end of the world; Hannah knows when it's going to happen.

Despite Ellis's anxiety — about what others think of her, about what she's doing wrong, about the safety of her loved ones — the two girls become fast friends. As Ellis tries to help Hannah decipher the details of her doomsday premonition, she learns there are secrets Hannah isn’t telling her. But with time ticking down, the search for answers only raises more questions. When does it happen? Who will believe them? How do you prepare for the end of the world when it feels like your life is just getting started?

Katie Henry, the author of Heretics Anonymous, delivers an engrossing and thoughtful tale about how people survive — with some faith in family, friends, and maybe a few prepper forums.

My Review:
Yeah! This book was a lot of fun to read, which is kinda strange, given that it's about the apocalypse. Like the book game she plays with her friends, Five-Word Books. Sure, there was clashing with her family, about her anxiety and her need to be prepared for the end of the world. It was a pretty balanced book!

I really enjoyed Ellis's various quirks, like that she is pretty into etymology, the study of the history and origin of words. How she remembers pretty much everything that she writes down. Her inner voice, oh, that I despised with a vengeance, because it was every negative thought that someone could have about themselves in every situation that she was in. Not fun!

Ellis had her family, and she had her church-she a Mormon-and she had her need to survive. She was questioned a few times, what she was surviving for. And that was a good question. I really enjoyed watching her journey, because it goes into a space that, while she isn't ready to put labels on, isn't your typical one, that she is attracted to both boys and girls.

The whole thing with the apocalypse, well, I had reserves about it. And it turns out, I was both right-and wrong-about it. Sure, there were lies and misdirects, but when it actually happened, it did happen like Hannah said it would. The scope was just intensely personal, not the whole world.

This book was so great, and I enjoyed it a lot!
