Week 28 Reviews: Origin, The Sign of the Jaguar

From Goodreads:
Pia has grown up in a secret laboratory hidden deep in the Amazon rain forest. She was raised by a team of scientists who have created her to be the start of a new immortal race. But on the night of her seventeenth birthday, Pia discovers a hole in the electric fence that surrounds her sterile home—and sneaks outside the compound for the first time in her life.

Free in the jungle, Pia meets Eio, a boy from a nearby village. Together, they embark on a race against time to discover the truth about Pia's origin—a truth with deadly consequences that will change their lives forever.

Origin is a beautifully told, shocking new way to look at an age-old desire: to live forever, no matter the cost. This is a supremely compelling debut novel that blends the awakening romance of Matched with the mystery and jungle conspiracy of Lost.

From Goodreads:
An ORIGIN Short by Author Jessica Khoury. In ORIGIN, we hear only Pia's side of the story. In this new scene, relive Pia and Eio's first meeting.

My first review of Origin
My Review:
I really enjoyed reading the both of these! I had read Origin, but it's been almost 8 years since I read it. And I want to read the rest of the series, and I was due a reread, so I'm glad that I did, because this was a really great read!

Pia's an interesting character. She knows she'll live forever, she's expecting hundreds of years of life-but she's only 17 right now. So that's an interesting mix. And I just really loathed her situation, because she doesn't know how confined she is until she meets Eio.

Reading the short story, seeing Eio and Pia's meeting from his perspective was pretty interesting. Because we see how he's thought of from his perspective, and see his journey, though in this context, just the physical one, it's too short for anything else.

That ending! I forgot most of it, but I remembered one little bit of it. But how it played out, man, that was a little hard to read, because it was hurting! I'm glad that it did work out, but man, was there a cost! Such a great ending though!

I really enjoyed reading these, and I can't wait to read more of this series!
