Week 43 Review: There Will Come a Darkness

From Goodreads:
Leigh Bardugo's Six of Crows meets Kristin Cashore's Graceling, with a dash of Winter is Coming, in this showstopping debut YA fantasy!

The Age of Darkness approaches.
Five lives stand in its way.
Who will stop it... or unleash it?

For generations, the Seven Prophets guided humanity. Using their visions of the future, they ended wars and united nations―until the day, one hundred years ago, when the Prophets disappeared.

All they left behind was one final, secret prophecy, foretelling an Age of Darkness and the birth of a new Prophet who could be the world's salvation . . . or the cause of its destruction. As chaos takes hold, five souls are set on a collision course:

A prince exiled from his kingdom.
A ruthless killer known as the Pale Hand.
A once-faithful leader torn between his duty and his heart.
A reckless gambler with the power to find anything or anyone.
And a dying girl on the verge of giving up.

One of them―or all of them―could break the world. Will they be savior or destroyer? Perfect for fans of Throne of Glass, Children of Blood and Bone, and An Ember in the Ashes.

My Review:
This book was really fantastic to read. I enjoyed this world, and the question of if one or all of the five could be the savior or the destroyer! Getting to know these characters and their world was thrilling, and I'm so glad that this is at least a trilogy!

This world was so fascinating! Of course there's the Prophets, and the Age of Darkness prophecy hanging around that only a select few know about. The magic and how it works was fantastic to learn about. And then there's the politics, of basic survival all the way up to the machinations of kingdoms.

These characters had hidden depths. There were a lot of secrets, and as the book went on, we learned more about them and their past. I'm on the fence about if there's more, because this is just the first book, but I'm really excited to find out!

With the whole "collision course" part of the synopsis, I thought that they'd all come together at some point. And while there were plenty of team ups, not everybody met each other. I'm excited to see how things are all going to play out in the future!

Loved reading this book, and I'm so excited to continue the series!
