Week 10 Review: Smoke Bitten

From Goodreads:
Mercy Thompson, car mechanic and shapeshifter, faces a threat unlike any other in this thrilling entry in the #1 New York Times bestselling series.

I am Mercedes Athena Thompson Hauptman.
My only "superpowers" are that I turn into a thirty-five pound coyote and fix Volkswagens. But I have friends in odd places and a pack of werewolves at my back. It looks like I'm going to need them.

Centuries ago, the fae dwelt in Underhill--until she locked her doors against them. They left behind their great castles and troves of magical artifacts. They abandoned their prisoners and their pets. Without the fae to mind them, those creatures who remained behind roamed freely through Underhill wreaking havoc. Only the deadliest survived.

Now one of those prisoners has escaped. It can look like anyone, any creature it chooses. But if it bites you, it controls you. It lives for chaos and destruction. It can make you do anything--even kill the person you love the most. Now it is here, in the Tri-Cities. In my territory.

It won't, can't, remain.

Not if I have anything to say about it.

My first review of
Smoke Bitten
My Review:
It was really incredible rereading this book! I did hold off longer than I thought I would, it's been over a year, but I just read Wild Sign, so I had to reread this book now. I just loved seeing more of Mercy, dealing with Underhill and the escaped prisoner.

When I was creating this post, I read over my first review. And even though I just read this book, I had to think a moment on what I was talking about, the 3 threats, as well as what connects to Storm Cursed. I remembered the former, but not the later. I just can't think of what besides the obvious things that the characters connected, could be connected to Storm Cursed. I'm going to have to think on that.

Watching Mercy deal with Adam closing off the mate bond, and that whole situation was a little heartbreaking, because there's a great deal of worry, that their relationship is failing, which moves onto a much more pressing concern throughout the book, though Mercy does a really fantastic job of working with Adam about it, no matter how much he tries to avoid it.

Knowing what the smoke monster was, I loved seeing Mercy get the clues and put them together. When you think about it, the bad guy comes to mind, but I don't know much about fairy tales, and so the first time it caught me off guard, and so reading this book again, knowing who it was, that was just really great!

This was a wonderful read, and I can't wait to continue the series!
