Week 14 Review: Titan Song

From Goodreads:
The third book in the acclaimed Carter Archives noir fantasy series returns to the gritty town of Titanshade, where danger lurks around every corner.

Forbidden magic, murder... and disco. Carter's day keeps getting worse.

With the return of spring, new life floods into Titanshade. The sun climbs higher and stays longer, the economy is ascendant, and ever more newcomers arrive to be part of the city's rebirth. Even pop culture has taken notice, with a high-profile concert only days away. When a band member's murder threatens to delay the show, the diva star performer demands that the famous Detective Carter work the case. But Carter has secrets of his own, and his investigation unearths more victims and dark secrets, triggering a spiral of deceit, paranoia, and nightmarish magical transformations.

As conspiracies are exposed, Carter is sucked even deeper into the machinations of the rich, the powerful, and the venerated. Soon the very foundations of the city threaten to collapse and Carter's own freedom is on the line as he navigates between old enemies and fragile new alliances while racing to learn the true cause of this horrific series of deaths.

My Review:
This was another engaging read! I love this world of Titanshade so much, and watching Carter deal with these investigations, after everything that's happened to him, has been so entertaining! And given that the concert is taking place right around where the events of book 1 went down, well, it's complicated and I loved it!

First off, this mystery was fantastic to read! It sucks for Carter, that his unwanted fame is pulling him into this case, but he's a professional, he does his job. And the next gen manna drugs, wow, loved what they added to the story, because the effects of being hit with all that manna from the end of book 1 are still causing troubles! The pattern that emerged was chilling, and the stakes kept rising and it was fantastic!

And I loved the developments in this overarching world, between what Carter learns about the manna, and what it did to him, as well as some interactions with Ambassador Paulus and her daughter Gellica. The way that things ended, I need to know what's going to happen from here!

I really hope that we get more. In a answer on Goodreads for this book, Dan Stout wrote that he does have plans sketched out for another full length story and then some short stories and novellas, not to mention the other towns, so I'm really hoping that we get them!

This was a really great, intriguing mystery, and I hope we get more in the series!
