Week 38 Review: Queen's Gambit

From Goodreads:
Dorina Basarab is a dhampir—the feared and hated cross between a vampire and a human—or so she has always believed. She spent most of her life on the fringes of her two worlds, yearning to belong to one or the other, but despised and distrusted by both. Recently, a war in the supernatural community allowed her to get a foothold into her vampire father's world, one of danger, intrigue, glitz and glamour, where she found not only a home, but a lover, too.

For the first time in centuries, life seemed to be going her way. But now, a freak accident with a dangerous magical device has left her two natures separated into duplicate bodies, both fighting to survive while they search for the truth about her past, and the key to her future.

My Review:
This book was so fantastic! I loved spending more time with these characters, and I loved seeing all that was happening in their eventful, crazy lives! This is the first full lneght Dory book that was self published, and honestly, there wasn't anything different about it, and there hasn't been since the change with

Sometimes in this world, it's hard to know what exactly is going on, what the developments that are happening right in front of our eyes mean, because it's so chaotic, with some non-stop action sometimes. But given the way this book is arranged, it's a little out of sync in a good way, giving more a breather.

Because of the duplicate bodies, we got narration from both Dory and Dorina, who aren't in the same place, who have wildly different adventures going on. And in the beginning we focused on Dory, maybe get a chapter or two from Dorina, before more of Dory. And then it switched, giving more focus on the Dorina, with check ins again with Dory. And I loved this so much, part of it with the fact that it slowed down everything, but also how that affected the pacing!

This was such a fantastic read, and I can't wait to pick up Ignite the Fire: Incendiary, as well as the next Dory book!
