Week 41 Reviews: The Forbidden, The Unknown

She is someone's darkest desire

Playing the victim of a vampire king on an island off New Orleans is actress Avalon Morgan's creepiest role to date. It's also scary good fun—until the victim of a real killer is discovered on set, laid out for all to see. With production shut down, Avalon can't stop thinking about the chilling crime scene, or Finley Stirling, the FBI agent working the case.

With a rising body count and zero leads, Fin can't help but be impressed by Avalon's amateur sleuthing, which takes her to the darkest corners of the internet, where killers confess their crimes. One such account is a dead ringer for the murders, but when the evidence vanishes, nobody believes Avalon—except for Fin. With no one they can trust, Avalon and Fin are determined to unbury the truth at any cost, but a return to the deadly island could be the last thing they do.

Someone wants to watch the city burn…

Sienna Murray was only fourteen when she pulled her neighbors out of a raging house fire. A decade later, she still can't explain what happened that night, how she knew to save them at just the right moment—or why she receives the same mysterious warning when it happens again…

New member of the Krewe of Hunters elite paranormal team Detective Ryder Stapleton doesn't believe in coincidences. So when the suspicious fire he's called to investigate reveals a cryptic link to Sienna, he can't help but think the unassuming museum curator has something to hide. But he soon discovers they have more in common than he ever thought—and a growing attraction neither can deny.

If they're going to have a future, Sienna and Ryder need to catch a serial arsonist roaming the shadowy streets of New Orleans…before the city burns down around them.

My Review:
These were another 2 great stories in this series! The mysteries were compelling, and I enjoyed getting to know these characters! And both were set in and around New Orleans, which of course has top tier atmosphere for a ghost series!

My one thing is that at this point, we've had 35 book in this series. And it's getting a little hard to believe that there's this many characters who a) can see ghosts, and b) at least one member of the couple is of a law enforcement bent. It's getting harder to suspend disbelief. I love the idea, it's unique, but it's been going on for a long time now.

The Forbidden is focused on this private island that is close to the one where Jean Laffite buried his treasure. There are secrets and there are some helpful ghosts, and there's two characters falling in love as they solve this mystery!

The Unknown was interesting in the fact that they're after an arsonist. Most of the crimes are straight up murder. Adding fire to the mix was really entertaining to read, alongside their romance! It's things like this that I enjoy about the series, no matter my complaints!

I had a great time reading these books, they were really great romantic mysteries!
