Week 10 Review: Release

From Goodreads:
Inspired by Judy Blume's Forever and Virginia Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway, this novel that Andrew Smith calls "beautiful, enchanting, [and] exquisitely written" is a new classic about teenage relationships, self-acceptance—and what happens when the walls we build start coming down. A Kirkus Best Book of 2017!

Adam Thorn doesn’t know it yet, but today will change his life.

Between his religious family, a deeply unpleasant ultimatum from his boss, and his own unrequited love for his sort-of ex, Enzo, it seems as though Adam's life is falling apart.  At least he has two people to keep him sane: his new boyfriend (he does love Linus, doesn't he?) and his best friend, Angela.

But all day long, old memories and new heartaches come crashing together, throwing Adam's life into chaos. The bindings of his world are coming untied one by one; yet in spite of everything he has to let go, he may also find freedom in the release.

From the New York Times bestselling author of A Monster Calls comes a raw, darkly funny, and deeply affecting story about the courage it takes to live your truth.

My Review:
Loved reading this book! I loved how it was told, of mainly Adam's perspective, but then in each chapter, we'd have a bit of this Queen, who is mixed up up with the soul of a girl who died in the lake. It was such a great read!

This all takes place in the space of a day, and just everything is going wrong for Adam, his family is a poor preacher family-and he's gay, so that's hard. Plus his ex is leaving soon, and the way things ended was unsettling for Adam but he does have his new boyfriend Linus. And he gets fired from his job because his boss was an utter asshole.

While things are getting worse for Adam, we're also learning more about the Queen, and there's a countdown there, and things were getting pretty intense there, as well! It was such a great dynamic to read, because these stories are only barely connected, just taking place at the same time. Loved that!

Really enjoyed how it all worked out, with that brief intersection with the two stories, as well as where we left these characters. I loved the developments in the various relationships that Adam has, romantic and family and friends. All in all, they were in a better place than when they started!

I had a great time reading this book, and I need to read more by Patrick Ness!
