Week 25 Review: Red, White & Royal Blue

From Goodreads:
A big-hearted romantic comedy in which the First Son falls in love with the Prince of Wales after an incident of international proportions forces them to pretend to be best friends...

First Son Alex Claremont-Diaz is the closest thing to a prince this side of the Atlantic. With his intrepid sister and the Veep's genius granddaughter, they're the White House Trio, a beautiful millennial marketing strategy for his mother, President Ellen Claremont. International socialite duties do have downsides—namely, when photos of a confrontation with his longtime nemesis Prince Henry at a royal wedding leak to the tabloids and threaten American/British relations.

The plan for damage control: staging a fake friendship between the First Son and the Prince. Alex is busy enough handling his mother's bloodthirsty opponents and his own political ambitions without an uptight royal slowing him down. But beneath Henry's Prince Charming veneer, there's a soft-hearted eccentric with a dry sense of humor and more than one ghost haunting him.

As President Claremont kicks off her reelection bid, Alex finds himself hurtling into a secret relationship with Henry that could derail the campaign and upend two nations. And Henry throws everything into question for Alex, an impulsive, charming guy who thought he knew everything: What is worth the sacrifice? How do you do all the good you can do? And, most importantly, how will history remember you?

My Review:
I had such a great time reading this book! The idea of a romance between the royalty of England and the First family of the US, but make it gay, it's such a squee kind of story, the one you can't help but devour! I had such a great time reading it!

Alex was confident in his own skin. He knew what he wanted, to be a politician, to be able to help people, and he was a lot of fun to read about. And his frenemy with the prince was so adorable to read, I couldn't wait to see things turn romantic!

There was a lot going on, between them having to pretend to be best buddies at the beginning when they ever so weren't, and his mom running for reelection. Falling in love-and with a guy, when he hadn't known he was not fully straight-was a bit of a surprise to him. But oh, was it fun to read!

Of all the parts of their relationship, I think my favourite was the quotes that they sent at the end of their emails of various romantic statements. Though the drama in the way that they were outed was not fun, I'm glad that they got through it, and had a future that they were looking forward to!

I had a really great time reading this book, and I can't wait to read more by Casey McQuiston!
