Week 11 Reviews: Raven's Shadow, Raven's Strike

From Goodreads:
For many years, the city of Colossae was a haven of magical study. As generations of wizards pushed the limits of their abilities, an evil entity was unleashed that could only be contained by the sacrifice of their city. From the ashes of Colossae, the Travelers emerged - roaming the world to ensure that the Stalker would remain imprisoned forever...

Seraph is a Raven mage and among the last of the Travelers. Unwelcome among those who fear magic, the wizard clans have been decimated by the very people they've sworn to protect. But Seraph is spared a similar fate by the ex-soldier Tier - and together they build a life where she is no longer burdened by her people's responsibility.

But now Tier is missing - or dead - and Seraph's reprieve from her duty is over. Using her magic to discover her husband's fate, Seraph realizes the Stalker's prison is weakening - and only she can fulfill her ancestors' oath to protect humanity from destruction...

Centuries ago, the wizards of Colossae unleashed an unimaginable force of destruction: the Stalker. Only the sacrifice of their entire city could contain the menace they had wrought—but even then, the Stalker was only imprisoned, and it can still find conduits for its evil power...

Seraph is among the last of the Travelers, those who strive to destroy the dark magic released by their ancestors' mistakes. Seraph tried to escape her people's duty and live a quiet life, until evil found her...and her family.

A cunning new force for darkness called the Shadowed stalks the land, feeding on death, destruction, and the sleeping Stalker's power. He plans to wake the Stalker, wreaking untold havoc, but he needs those who bear the Travelers' magic to release the dark god...and he has his sights set on Seraph and her family.

Now Seraph must use all her cunning and ability as a Raven mage to track down the Shadowed and strike against him before it is too late...

My Review
:
I absolutely loved reading these books! I've spend these first few months being obsessed with Patricia Brigg's earlier books, and now I think I need to reread some of the Mercy books, because I love her writing so much. These two were just as great!

This world with the Travelers, with their Orders, that have Order Bearers to hold the magic, was so interesting to read, with the history of the city that they sacrificed to protect the world from their hubris. And this family, who are all Order Bearers-which is completely unheard of, that a non-Traveler had an Order, and all their kids have an Order. Oh, and they're all different Orders.

The first book dealt with the politics a lot, with the Secret Path, and all that. But the second book dealt more with the Shadowed, because while he set up the Secret Path, he survived to cause trouble in the second. Which lead them to learning a lot of valuable information! I just wish we could have more! And oh, I loved how it all played out!

One thing that I wish happened, was a little one off line, saying that for services for their empire, they no longer got taxed, basically. Because they were both a huge help to the Emperor, and that would've made their lives easier. Ah well!

I'm so glad that I've caught up on all of Patricia Brigg's full length published books, because they're so great. But it's bittersweet, because there's almost certainly not going to be any more, which is really too bad. But it also means that I won't have to go through this again with her books, because the Mercy books and world have been ongoing for so long now, that we've got to explore a lot. But it was still sad to say goodbye to this world and these characters after only having them for two books!

I loved reading these books and I can't wait to read more by Patricia Briggs!
