Week 17 Review: The Last House Guest

From Goodreads:
The summer after a wealthy young summer guest dies under suspicious circumstances, her best friend lives under a cloud of grief and suspicion in this "clever, stylish mystery that will seize readers like a riptide" (Publishers Weekly, starred review) featuring "dizzying plot twists and multiple surprise endings" (The New York Times Book Review).

Littleport, Maine, has always felt like two separate towns: an ideal vacation enclave for the wealthy, whose summer homes line the coastline; and a simple harbor community for the year-round residents whose livelihoods rely on service to the visitors.

Typically, fierce friendships never develop between a local and a summer girl—but that's just what happens with visitor Sadie Loman and Littleport resident Avery Greer. Each summer for almost a decade, the girls are inseparable—until Sadie is found dead. While the police rule the death a suicide, Avery can't help but feel there are those in the community, including a local detective and Sadie's brother, Parker, who blame her. Someone knows more than they're saying, and Avery is intent on clearing her name, before the facts get twisted against her.
The Last House Guest is a smart, twisty read that brilliantly explores the elusive nature of memory and the complexities of female friendships.

My Review:
I had a blast reading this book! I'm really getting into Megan Miranda's thrillers, I loved reading her mysteries and I'm really excited to read more! They all sound so good, and I have such a great time reading them!

The clues that she plants, and how she then brings it all back together is so great. Like in this book, there was a party, and Sadie dies at some point during the night. But she was never seen at the party. But we were given clues that were out of context, or viewed a different way, and when they were viewed another, it worked out!

Avery is a local, and one that's been down on her luck, her whole family has passed, and there was a point where she was a wild child. But she became friends with Sadie, and that really opened up her world. Even after Sadie's death, she's found a new steadiness.

With the anniversary coming up, strange occurrences start popping up, and with that, starts Avery's questions. I loved watching the pieces come together, as Avery learned some uncomfortable truths. And oh, that ending was so satisfying, taking down both the bad guy and some bad attitudes!

Loved reading this book, and I need to read more by Megan Miranda!
