Week 17 Review: Semiosis

From Goodreads:
Human survival hinges on an bizarre alliance in Semiosis, a character driven science fiction novel of first contact by debut author Sue Burke.

Colonists from Earth wanted the perfect home, but they'll have to survive on the one they found. They don't realize another life form watches...and waits...

Only mutual communication can forge an alliance with the planet's sentient species and prove that humans are more than tools.

My Review:
This book was really strange. I really enjoyed the way that it was told with a character from each generation, each one building on the last, but oh, it was weird! Which is works really well with a sci fi story with sentient life-forms that are plants.

This book was almost like a set of interconnected short stories, because we'd follow these characters-and then we'd move onto following the next generation. That built and built the story, but it had that feel of short stories where you don't get as much time to connect to the characters. Not bad, but different.

With each generation, we both developed the families and their dynamics, but also their understanding of this place where they live, and seeing how the plants were training their surroundings, including, as they learn, the group of humanity living there.

This was just a really interesting concept was really enjoyable to read, to see humanity adapt to a very strange planet. I'm interested in seeing how it's going to progress in the sequel, I've read it's synopsis, and it'll be interesting to deal with a group of humanity unfamiliar with Pax vs. this group that has grown up there!

This was such a great read and I can't wait to continue on!
