Week 29 Review: Space Station Down

From Goodreads:
Hugo Award-winning author Ben Bova joins forces with Nebula Award finalist Doug Beason for an action packed technothriller with Space Station Down.

When an ultra-rich space tourist visits the orbiting International Space Station, NASA expects a $100 million win-win: his visit will bring in much needed funding and publicity. But the tourist venture turns into a scheme of terror. Together with an extremist cosmonaut, the tourist slaughters all the astronauts on board the million-pound ISS—and prepares to crash it into New York City at 17,500 miles an hour, causing more devastation than a hundred atomic bombs. In doing so, they hope to annihilate the world's financial system.

All that stands between them and their deadly goal is the lone survivor aboard the ISS, Kimberly Hasid-Robinson, a newly divorced astronaut who has barricaded herself in a secure area.

My Review:
This was such a thrilling read! It's kinda like The Martian, except there's an element of an active threat, with the people on board who have set things in motion by killing almost everyone on board, as well as the fact that the environment can kill you if you're not careful, and I loved it!

We got to see both Kimberly's perspective on the ISS, as well as her ex-husband on Earth, mainly, and I loved going back and forth between them as they dealt with the situation in their own ways. Plus a few one off perspectives to give details to fill in the full picture of what was happening.

Man, this was such a tense read! Kimberly is one person against two opponents, so they have the advantage in numbers, but she has the advantage in the most recent experience in the ISS. I loved watching them face off!

The science and the mechanics that were employed to keep the ISS up in orbit were interesting to read, and with the threat of it being destroyed-by the good guys or the bad guys-was an ongoing source of tension right up until the last chapter and I loved it!

This was a fantastic thriller and I had a really great time reading it!
