Estranged half sisters band together in order to survive the terrifying aftermath of a devastating earthquake.
Family dynamics as well as themes of facing fears, survival and teamwork are explored.
The story follows the gripping journey of the sisters as they travel on foot and hitchhike from the real town of Mission to Richmond, British Columbia.
This is a thrilling, realistic depiction of what experiencing a high-magnitude earthquake and its aftermath might be like.
Gabrielle Prendergast has written four other hi-lo titles, as well as books in other genres, including the award-winning Zero Repeat Forever, a fast-paced sci-fi fantasy.
Includes a map of the area traversed by the sisters during the disaster.
Enhanced features (dyslexia-friendly font, cream paper, larger trim size) to increase reading accessibility for dyslexic and other striving readers.
My Review:
I had such a great time reading this book! I've really enjoyed this series (though I wish I'd read it in order) of various families having to deal with a natural disaster. This one, dealing with an earthquake, was another great read!
One thing that I love about this series is this focus on families, and the different types of families and bonds. They might not always get along, but being in emergency situations does tend to bring people together, and I really enjoyed that.
Another great part of this series, is that they're HiLo, meaning that the books themselves are designed to maximise accessibility, and make them really easy to read. That they're novellas, and they're in high stakes situations, make them a snap to read, espcailly for someone who isn't the target demographic.
Reading about these half-sisters who really didn't know one another as they worked to survive this catastrophe, I loved the bond that it built between them. It really showed the ways that people can come together to help each other, and that was really heartwarming.
Loved reading this book and I can't wait to read more by Gabrielle Prendergast!
