Week 22 Review: Promises in Death

From Goodreads:
Amarylis Coltraine may have recently transferred to the New York City police force from Atlanta, but she's been a cop long enough to know how to defend herself against an assailant. When she's taken down just steps away from her apartment, killed with her own weapon, for Eve, the victim isn't just one of us.

Dallas's friend Chief Medical Examiner Morris and Coltraine had started a serious relationship, and from all accounts the two were headed for a happy future together. But someone has put an end to all that. After breaking the news to Morris, Eve starts questioning everyone from Coltraine's squad, informants, and neighbors, while Eve's husband, Roarke, digs into computer data on Coltraine's life back in Atlanta. To their shock, they discover a connection between this case and their own painful, shadowy pasts.

The truth will need to be uncovered one layer at a time, starting with the box that arrives at Cop Central addressed to Eve containing Coltraine's guns, badge, and a note from her killer: You can have them back. Maybe someday soon, I'll be sending yours to somebody else.

But Eve Dallas doesn't take too kindly to personal threats, and she is going to break this case, whatever it takes. And that's a promise.

My Review:
So this book, it's a bit more personal. We've grown to care for the gang over the previous 27 books, and part of that gang is Morris. And Morris was falling in love, if not already in love, with Coltraine. And then she was killed in this, and it sucked!

The connection between Eve and Roarke's past, and Coltraine's, well, yeah, it's a bit unpleasant-Max Richer, and his son, Max, who they locked up in a previous case. But it's there, and then yeah, there's the hunt for the bad guy!

Oh, Louise's pre-wedding for the ladies that doesn't want to spell properly party that Eve hosts! Really hilarious to watch Eve's reactions to it, it's another party for her to attend, one that she's technically hosting, but there's always Mavis and Summerset! Who says he's proud of Eve, which was really nice! And then the ladies had time to have a meeting to discus the case, which while Eve felt uneasy about it, worked out rather well!

Yeah, the mystery came in at the right moment! Because of the personal nature of the case, things were felt more sharply, and yeah, that made them work all the more harder to catch the bad guy, which they did, and things were a bit better!

Really enjoyed this book so much, can't wait to reread more!
