Week 21 Review: Far From You

From Goodreads:
Sophie Winters nearly died. Twice.

The first time, she's fourteen, and escapes a near-fatal car accident with scars, a bum leg, and an addiction to Oxy that'll take years to kick.

The second time, she's seventeen, and it's no accident. Sophie and her best friend Mina are confronted by a masked man in the woods. Sophie survives, but Mina is not so lucky. When the cops deem Mina's murder a drug deal gone wrong, casting partial blame on Sophie, no one will believe the truth: Sophie has been clean for months, and it was Mina who led her into the woods that night for a meeting shrouded in mystery.

After a forced stint in rehab, Sophie returns home to a chilly new reality. Mina's brother won't speak to her, her parents fear she'll relapse, old friends have become enemies, and Sophie has to learn how to live without her other half. To make matters worse, no one is looking in the right places and Sophie must search for Mina's murderer on her own. But with every step, Sophie comes closer to revealing all: about herself, about Mina and about the secret they shared.

My Review:
I loved this book! Such a great story, and characters, and a wonderful mystery! The only thing I didn't really like was the back and forth, I've enjoyed it in other stories, but this wasn't sequential, it was what had been thought about or was needed to know by the readers, in the present. Which then made my brain thing on what previous "past" chapters had happened in the current "past" chapter, so that was a bit annoying, but really, that was my only complaint!

This is a great addition to diverse books, about the fear of being who you are, which for the case with Mina and Sophie, is lesbian, and bisexual in that order. And mostly, it was the fear of Mina's, because she was raised with a religion that said that her feelings were wrong. And they aren't, but she had that fear. Not so much with Sophie, whose parents didn't care so much, and were focused on her drug addiction.

An addiction that started after the pain medication she had to take after the car accident. The first time she almost died. The second time, someone puts a gun to Mina's chest and pulls the trigger, and knocks out Sophie, and then plants drugs on Sophie to make it look like she relapsed, when they were really there for a lead in the story of a missing girl.

I really enjoyed their investigation. Her friends, they were awesome, and digging into the old case, the one that Mina was investigating, and the clues that they found? Great teen detecting! Really great, and there were some funny bits, like when she threatened Mina's ex-boyfriend in the beginning, that was really funny!

I really loved this book, can't wait to see what Tess Sharpe writes next!!
