Week 32 Review: Magic Shifts

From Goodreads:
In the latest Kate Daniels novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews, magic is coming and going in waves in post-Shift Atlanta—and each crest leaves danger in its wake…

After breaking from life with the Pack, mercenary Kate Daniels and her mate—former Beast Lord Curran Lennart—are adjusting to a very different pace. While they're thrilled to escape all the infighting, Kate and Curran know that separating from the Pack completely is a process that will take time.

But when they learn that their friend Eduardo has gone missing, Kate and Curran shift their focus to investigate his disappearance. Eduardo was a fellow member of the Mercenary Guild, so Kate knows the best place to start looking is his most recent jobs. As Kate and Curran dig further into the merc's business, they discover that the Guild has gone to hell and that Eduardo's assignments are connected in the most sinister way…

An ancient enemy has arisen, and Kate and Curran are the only ones who can stop it—before it takes their city apart piece by piece.

My Review:
Gah, this book! I was lucky in that I got hooked into this series not long before this book came out, but that just means that the wait for me is between now and the later books, not before. Which is less of a wait, but still, wait! For an amazing book! Oh, well! It'll be worth it!

We knew that things were connected, and then as things were going, well, it got a just the tiniest bit hard to keep track of them all, but it was ever so fantastic to read them, that it didn't matter, because the characters remembered!

Kate had another near death experience, this one that was made worse that she then had the choice of excelled healing and possibly having her personality changed, and memory loss, or years of healing, which wasn't a choice, what with her dad. Thankfully, it worked out really well!

There was one big thing for the next book that was going on, first mentioned in a vision from the youngest witch of the trifecta, leading to the bad guy showing her what was going to happen-her baby being taken away by her dad. And in a Q&A with the author, mentioned that the baby would be pretty big in the next book!

Favourite lines: "'Besides, if I'd decided to pull Carver's spine out of his body, I would've done it already.' 'Can you actually do that?' Curran frowned. 'I don't know. I mean theoretically if you broke the spine above the pelvis, you could, but then there are ribs . . . I'll have to try it sometime.'" Sounds like it'll be an interesting experiment! "Unfortunately, the transformation was governed by his strange canine brain, and sometimes he decided that the proper course of action in battle was to pee and roll in dead things instead." Because that's really helpful! Gross, but so funny! "I knew the size because Luther had it mowed once every few weeks. It took five people to do it. One drove an armored lawn mower and the other four guarded the driver." That says something about the contents of this pit area thing! "'You missed the slaughter,' I reported. Curran grimaced. 'You missed me carrying horses over the rubble.' Curran and horses didn't get along. He thought they were unpredictable and untrustworthy, and they thought he was a werelion." And with the horses being right, well, that's why they're unpredictable and untrustworthy around him! Vicious circle!

Such a great and fantastic book, now I have the long, long, long wait for the next book!
