Week 37 Reviews: Blond Hair, Blue Eyes, Pretty Girls

From Goodreads:
A beautiful young girl was walking down the street―when suddenly…

Julia Carroll knows that too many stories start that way. Beautiful, intelligent, a nineteen-year-old college freshman, she should be carefree. But instead she is frightened. Because girls are disappearing.

A fellow student, Beatrice Oliver, is missing. A homeless woman called Mona-No-Name is missing. Both taken off the street. Both gone without a trace.

Julia is determined to find out the reasons behind their disappearances. And she doesn't want to be next…

From Goodreads:
#1 internationally bestselling author Karin Slaughter returns with a sophisticated and chilling psychological thriller of dangerous secrets, cold vengeance, and unexpected absolution, in which two estranged sisters must come together to find truth about two harrowing tragedies, twenty years apart, that devastate their lives.

Sisters. Strangers. Survivors.

More than twenty years ago, Claire and Lydia's teenaged sister Julia vanished without a trace. The two women have not spoken since, and now their lives could not be more different. Claire is the glamorous trophy wife of an Atlanta millionaire. Lydia, a single mother, dates an ex-con and struggles to make ends meet. But neither has recovered from the horror and heartbreak of their shared loss—a devastating wound that's cruelly ripped open when Claire's husband is killed.

The disappearance of a teenage girl and the murder of a middle-aged man, almost a quarter-century apart: what could connect them? Forming a wary truce, the surviving sisters look to the past to find the truth, unearthing the secrets that destroyed their family all those years ago . . . and uncovering the possibility of redemption, and revenge, where they least expect it.

Powerful, poignant, and utterly gripping, packed with indelible characters and unforgettable twists, Pretty Girls is a masterful thriller from one of the finest suspense writers working today.

My Review:
Reading these books was just so freaking perfect! Blonde Hair, Blue Eyes, the story of Julia's last day before-and the start of-her disappearance, and then Pretty Girls, where said disappearance is half of the mystery of the book! So awesome!

I really enjoyed reading these books together, they came together so well, and knowing that something bad was going to happen, it was just a little bit hard reading the prequel, but also knowing that it would most likely be solved in the novel, helped with that!

These sisters, they were different, and they were so fascinating to read about! We had hints of them as kids in the prequel, but as adults, they were, well, adults, and had changed, matured, grown up, but a point that this book made for me, is core character.

One big part of both of these, is the topic of rape. It's horrible, it's extremely sucky that happens as often as it's estimated to, just everything about it. And that most people don't care-if it's not happening to them, it doesn't matter, which is true about most issues. It still sucks!

So fantastic to read this book, with all the twists and turns, and that ending! Oh! So good, just proves yet again that Karin Slaughter is a fantastic author!
